Man pleads guilty to stealing 5 drums of fuel
In the Magistrates’ Court meanwhile, thirty-one year old Roger Pennil of Belama Phase Three, Belize City pleaded guilty to Theft in connection with an incident at the Princess Hotel and Casino marina on Wednesday night. The charge for which Pennil was arrested follows a report by the Marina manager, forty-four year old Angel Espat, who told police that shortly after seven on Wednesday night he was conducting routine checks when he observed a Mitsubishi L-200 pickup truck with five drums in the pan. According to Espat, he saw Pennil and Marlon Middleton walking away from the truck. When Espat checked the marina’s diesel tank he noticed that the fuel level had gone down by seven inches, or a total of two hundred and forty-five gallons of fuel. Police later recovered four drums of fuel from Independence Drive in Buttonwood Bay. Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb gave Pennil until November ninth to pay a fine of a thousand dollars. In default he will spend one year behind bars. Meanwhile, a similar charge of Theft was withdrawn from against Middleton.
