Police tribunal into officer’s conduct regarding Galvez family complete

yolanda schakron

The murder of Christopher Galvez remains unresolved. On December twenty-third, 2009 twenty-three year old Galvez was murdered execution style at Pipersburgh’s Boatyard near mile two and a half on the Western Highway.  He was shot and killed at close range after being picked up from home a little after eight o’clock that night when his family business, located on Vernon Street, had closed.  There are several theories as to what may have taken place that Tuesday night when Galvez was killed.  Among the many allegations was that a well known police officer may have been involved in the shooting.  While the family looked to the police department to break the case involving one of their own, the same officer, also stood accused of entering Galvez’s property a few days later and threatening his family.  An internal police tribunal was later convened to look into the matter but was postponed on several occasions for various reasons.  The most recent adjournment was on Wednesday when Superintendent Miguel Guzman, a member of the tribunal, failed to appear for the hearing.  Despite his absence the panel went ahead and issued its verdict.  The Galvez family is disappointed by the decision that was handed down.

Yolanda Shakron, Aunt of Christopher Galvez

“We were told that the verdict would be in yesterday.  Yesterday morning at nine o’clock I went there.  I called Mr. Sabal; Mr. Sabal said that they had changed it to today nine o’clock.  I went there today nine o’clock [and] when I arrived there I couldn’t find Mr. Sabal, anybody.  So I went up to the office of Mr. Henderson and Mr. Henderson informed me that they had already given the verdict yesterday afternoon.  I called Mr. Sabal and said why were we not informed.  He said he didn’t have a contact number for me so I feel like it was deliberately moved so that we were not present when the verdict was given. Mr. Darrel Usher was charged for indecent words and threatening words, a hundred dollars on each charges, that’s it.  Nothing about the gun that he came into our property threatening us with a gun, nothing like that he was charged on.  This is total, totally unfair to me.  This is just another example of where justice in this country does not exist.  I mean there are certain police officers who have a lot of privileges apparently in the department and we the citizens have no rights.  You know, we were mourning Christopher Galvez the following day after he was murdered and Darrel Usher came into our property, threatened us and nothing was done, just a slap on the wrist.  Now you tell me Isani, dat dah justice?”

Yolanda Shakron further noted that the police department knows who killed her nephew but is remaining tightlipped because she believes they are protecting their own.

Mr. Doug Singh needs to clean out the swamp if he is the man to give us an honest and competent pol;ice force. Put every officer on a lie detector, and fire every one who is caught lying.

If police are not honest, there is no justice.

I would rather have one honest officer than a hundred crooks with badges and guns!

We need to start over and create a PROFESSIONAL and NON-POLITICAL police force — not blue, not red, just honest Belizeans who want equal justice for all.

Maybe we have to bring in experienced foreigners to train them.

get a hitman and eliminate the sucker! he doesn’t belong in society, much less serving the nation of belize to supposedly protect us. it’s my hard earning money that is paying him!

  3. belizeanpride says:

i do believe that they are protecting thier own, what shame.

  4. Elgin Martinez says:

When incidents that involves members of the Police force occur it is cammon sense that you can’t use members from the Police dept to head the tribunal. An indipendent body that has no affiliation with either party or the Police dept need to be appointed to take care of these type of cases.Until then don’t expect any justice my Belizean peeps.

  5. Proud says:

Good job Belize Police Force! Here you are suffering under the worst level of confidence in your institution and you have a citizen running around after she/her family are being fed misinformation. I can imagine that with this action you do not want any criticism and in fact are hoping that the Belizean public has increased confidence in the department. I imagine that you figure that the callousness and incompetence you display will be held as a banner of professionalism!
How much more idiotic can these people be? I hope that Mr Singh makes good of his promise to get rid of the people who display such incompetence and lack of commonsense. And I say to start from the top all the way down.I would like to wish that the same thing happens to those policemen, but it would mean that their families and their friends would suffer. I will not wish that. However, there is a thing called karma!
Lastly, this is not a wish, but a result of the study of history and a little knowledge of the human psyche. One of these days, John Q Public will get enough and there will be hell to pay. There will be a situation whereby the prdinary citizen will take justice into his/her hands. I imagine the police then will fall over themselves to show that they are for dealing with criminals! Really? And we should believe then?

  9. ang says:

I guess this is one more that will not be solved or was not meant to be solved, as simple as that.

  10. Fonsing says:

    Karma!!!
Laws of retribution never NEVER fails!!!
    Go on law officers.

  11. Anthony Monzon says:

It is a shame that a tiny country like belize has no pride on their own justice system but I do not blame them an enough is enough time to take justice on our own hands an Tim is damn right ! they may have all the power + money but united an with patience all those criminals can be eliminated to save country from a total disgrace.

  12. a moron says:

So may rogue cops, its disturbing. Thos year alone, police killed Teddy murrillo, Chris galvez, PC Sanchez, and so many others. So far the only action taken against rogue cops is: Jermaine mangar being charged for cospiracy to commit robbery. And with an incompetent DPP, even Dickie will get him off!
