Car clubs are the new craze

Story PictureThere are billiards clubs, tennis clubs, football clubs and the most recent craze are car clubs. There were no such clubs in Belize until recently, when a group of men with a passion for cars and car stereos formed the Dynamiq and Xclusive Car Clubs. Today, two of the seven members of Xclusive Car Club, dropped by News Five to tell us that they represented Belize in a car show in Chetumal on October fifth. And according to Marlon Skeen, president of Xclusive Car Club, despite the rains, there was a large attendance by Mexican car enthusiasts from all over the state of Quintana Roo.

Marlon Skeen, President, Xclusive Car Club
“We went to represent Belize on the map over there. The car show was about SPL, which is a sound competition and also tuning which is how you have your ride fixed up and everything like that. We got invited over there so we just took our cars over there to just try and represent Belize in that kind of manner.”

Jose Sanchez
“You think the car show is catching on in Belize?”

Marlon Skeen
“I think so because from since we had one at Old Belize in August, I noticed a lot of young people around calling us because we also have a website and they are asking us a lot of questions and we also see a lot of cars fixed up in Belize now.”

Shane Reyes, Vice President, Xclusive Car Club
“The SPL is with the sound system; how high base note you can carry and the tuning competition is basically overall exterior, interior, your engine modifications; everything. The two car clubs brought back four trophies. The Xclusive brought back two and Dynamiq auto club brought back two. The Xclusive car club, Marlon Skeen won second for touch tuning and I won third in the amateur tuning competition. The Dynamiq Auto Club brought back second and third in the SPL competition.”

Jose Sanchez
“Can you just have a bucket and join your club?”

Shane Reyes
“We try to have standards. We keep the mind that not everyone has a big budget to spend and maybe some people are just starting off. So we keep that in mind but we have to see the passion and the love for it for us to really accept that person.”

Skeen says that a third car club, Royal, has just been formed and the three clubs are planning a car show on November fifteenth and sixteenth.
