…But it is in urgent need of better roads

Story PictureCrooked Tree will shortly have a new water system, and while that is clearly a necessity for the community, there is another urgent need that is yet to be delivered. It has to do with infrastructure. When it rains, like it has been doing this week, access to the village is difficult because of the poor road conditions. According to Area Representative, Edmund Castro, there are plans to improve the roads.

Edmund Castro, Area Rep., Bze Rural North
“There’s some money allocated for to fix Crooked Tree causeway and the contractor that we get to fix the Crooked Tree causeway will also be working in conjunction with the water project so that we can fix the major streets in the Crooked Tree Village.”

Marion Ali
“How long is that?”

Edmund Castro
“That will start within the next month or so as soon as we get to lay the pipe along the roadside so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel in terms of fixing the streets and then going over and digging up back the streets to lay the pipes. So we will be putting down the pipe and the contractor will come and fix the street at the same time. So we’ll get a comprehensive work done in Crooked Tree. The interior is basically white marl but with hard top so it will be very nice. We had already done one already but we realised that with the water system coming on stream, we need to put down the pipe and then fix the street as soon as they finish with that. So we have approximately ten miles of streets in Crooked Tree that need to get fixed. We are not promising that we will do all ten miles but we will do the major streets along the village.”

Marion Ali
“What will be the cost of that?”

Edmund Castro
“The Ministry of Works will pick up the tab on that one.”

Some ten miles of road is expected to be upgraded within the village over the next four and a half years.
