Belizeans win 5 medals in 1st day of Central American Games
They left last Friday for Nicaragua and there is good news about their stellar performance. Word has been received that the athletes who travelled to the second Central American Games for Students with Disabilities, have claimed five medals in day one of the competition in Managua. Belize City’s Romelda Logan has won gold in the female hundred meter competition while Christine Rhaburn of Orange Walk has won silver for the female Long Jump. Another silver medal was won by Jerris Valentine of Stann Creek District in the male long jump for the students with intellectual disabilities category. Bronze medals were claimed by Vaughn Enriquez in the male hundred meters for deaf students and Kelvin Cassimiro for the male hundred meter for Students with Intellectual Disabilities. The athletes are competing against approximately five hundred athletes from around the region, representing Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador. They are scheduled to return to Belize on the ninth of October.
