Belama Phase Four gets electricity
The Belama Phase four area is a fast-growing community in Belize City. Made up of a combination of locals and immigrants from neighbouring countries, Belama Phase four has been without electricity for all the years that it has existed. But since last week the Ministry of Works and the Belize Electricity Limited(BEL) have been addressing that problem. News Five caught up recently with Minister of Works, Anthony “Boots” Martinez, who explained that the works entail much more than electrifying the area.
Anthony “Boots” Martinez, Minister of Works
“Whether the lot is empty or the occupants, everybody at Belama Phase Four has access to water—you know that was a problem. Now we’re in the phases and we fix up a major portion of the street where everybody lives. Now we’re in the process of putting in electricity in the whole area that is legal. Everybody here that the government meet behind here who is on a piece of land, they will get papers for their land with the exception of where you fall in street, you have to move off. So it’s not—and we’re organizing the area. This third portion will not be affected with electricity until in the next month or so because you have obstructions of people in the street still, which they are willing to move. But I’m just saying at the end of the day, when you’re dealing with development and tangible development, you can’t deal with it in a haphazard way.”
Residents who have been squatting on lands that form part of the river or street reserve in Belama Phase Four will be relocated to another site in the same community.
good thinking. Always look forward to help the ones with the most needs. Lets progress Belize! Step by Step lets keep moving forward.
