Julio and Vanesa, surgery and recovery before nuptial bliss
ulio Escalante and Vanesa Ramos—Channel Five’s reality wedding couple—had their plans derailed by an unfortunate traffic mishap on July seventh. Julio and Vanesa would have said their “I do’s” this Saturday, but instead of last minute preparations, today they were at the Belize Healthcare Partners Limited where doctors evaluated Julio’s progress to determine a date for surgery to his shoulder. With the wedding pushed back to October, the couple is focused on Julio’s recovery. When we spoke to Vanesa this afternoon for an update—she was in good spirits and said things are looking up.

“Well, thanks to God ih di do very good. Dehn do x-rays on the shoulder and the pelvis and so far the pelvis in place where it should be. All he needs is more rest, of course. The doctor said that in about a month time then he can try and start to get up- and start to walk. As to the jaw, Dr. Samos said that in another two weeks he will do an x-ray and see if the steels are ready to come out—if the braces are ready to come out—if not, then he has to go for an additional two weeks. If not, then he has to go for an additional two weeks. But everything is looking good so far. He says it has no swelling, everything is going according to order, you know. As for the surgery to the shoulder, they still haven’t decided as yet when they will do the surgery for the shoulder because of his jaw but it’s an agreement between the two doctors. If Dr. Sosa is ready to do the surgery, Dr. Samos could cut the wires just for the period of the surgery and then put it back on immediately after. But it’s still in discussion and we’ll see when the surgeon—if not then it will be in the following two weeks but we’re hoping for the best.”

“And how is he, any pain or anything when he is at home?”
Vanesa Ramos
“No, no, no he is in no pain, he’s very happy, very lively and ih very upbeat. Right now he still can’t sit up, of course he can’t walk. He only turns from side to side and over. The doctor says still not to push it because sometimes I tell him he’s pushing it because sometimes he wants to put Alyssa on his chest and I say no, you can’t do that. So certain little things like playing with her, eh still plays with her on the bed but she’s getting more active daily so things like those he misses.”

“And how have you been doing?”
Vanesa Ramos
“Well at first I was down, but now seeing his improvements I’m really happy you know and excited and thanks to the good Lord everything is working out well.”
Julio was knocked off his bicycle as he headed to work on the afternoon of July seventh. He was dragged several feet by the moving vehicle and suffered a fractured jaw, broken hip and dislocated shoulder. The driver, Leonard Lewis, claims he suffered an epileptic seizure behind the wheel.

This is a true relfection of how Hard Working Belizean Families fight to survive. I am proud of Julio and Venessa for FIGHTING AND NOT GIVING UP. Many Belizeans have prayed for you guys and i am sure that it will be sweet sailing from this point onwards…you guys deserve it…..
Happy to see this youngman is recovering well. All the best to them.
So does Mr Lewis still have his driving privilages? I hope Belize have laws that people like this are not allowed to drive!
We all hope for a HAPPY ENDING.
