Eight years for snatching woman’s chain
He scored a gold chain worth a hundred and twenty-five dollars when he robbed Virginia Mendez on January twenty-seventh. But thirty-six year old Fernando Elijio now has to pay for his crime and the price is eight years in prison. His conviction came after three witnesses, including Mendez, testified against him today. Mendez told the court that she was walking near the Farmers Market when Elijio walked up, pointed a gun at her and snatcher her chain from around her neck. As he ran, Elijio was attacked by men in the area but he managed to escape them and jumped from the Belcan Bridge into the river. Police arrived on the scene and found him hiding under a beam below the bridge. He was fished out and detained. Elijio indicated that he will appeal the decision—his third conviction for Robbery. He also has another robbery charge pending before the court that comes up on October seventh.
This dude looks healthy and very strong, he jumped over Belcan bridge after robbing the woman of her chain. Lets see, put him in the olympics track and field trial he’s fit. Well on second tought he might rob someons chain and run. Third conviction and another case pennding for the same crime? He’s a punk and coward and needs to man up and serve his time. Frankly that is too light ,let it be 8 years of hard labour!
WE HAVE TO FEED AND HOUSE HIM FOR 8 YEARS???????????? FOR STEALING A STUPID CHAIN??????????? Throw some “hard labour” in so he can earn his keep.
Chain snatcher gets 8 years but murderers walk free…….hmmm….am i sensing an imbalance here????
Just double his time for the other charge, save some gas, time and money to bring this fool back in court. Sixteen years or life ask him which he prefer…COLD!!!
I think that we need to get these men/women serving time some real hard labor. They need to be getting up at five in the morning and working the roads are other parts in the communites as a pay back for their crimes. Chain gangs. They have life too easy in the jails so they do not mind doing the time. Who is in charge of the jails (what the heck are they doing) These are crimminals who have to pay back to society what was robbed (our dignity). Belize has fallen so low but even on our knees there i sstill hope. Stop putting our country down, we are not the only nation riddled with crime we are a small nation so it stands out more. You have to send the prime Minister a message with your votes, get people who really care about Belize in the seats not people who care about their status in the world and status of their pockets. We will survive but we have to fight harder. I think we need a woman as a Prime Minister one who have more juevos.
I a m glad to see that the legal system is putting offenders in jail for their crimes, but it will be better to see wat is the real root of these petty crimes and try to mend it
