Two men freed of murder charge
Two of five men—accused of the October second, 2009 murder of 20-year-old Randy Coye—walked free when Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie upheld a submission made by the men’s defense attorney. Twenty-three year old Brandon Smith, twenty year old Kenroy Humes, twenty one year old Leon Gray, twenty three year old Deshawn Mena, and twenty seven year old Edwin Flowers were all jointly charged with Murder. But today Smith and Flowers walked free. Defense attorney, Dickie Bradley, argued that the witness’ testimony that was presented is not credible because he was given immunity with the condition that he becomes a prosecution witness. Bradley concluded that the witness credibility is questionable as he first gave police an open statement and then later gave a caution statement indicating no evidence against Flowers and Smith. Prosecutor, Egbert Castillo, was not in agreement with Bradley and submitted that a prima facie case has been established from the prosecutor’s main witness testimony. He argued that the matter of credibility of a witness should be tested by a jury of twelve at the Supreme Court during trial and not at this level. In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate noted that it is not a good practice to base a conviction on the testimony of a sole witness who was allegedly a part of the murder.
When Randy Coye’s lifeless body was found on October fifth, 2009, he was found in a sitting position near a grave in the Lord Ridge Cemetery. He was badly beaten and shot and hit. The others charged will face trial later this year.
So Dickey dazzled them again & two young men with no visible means of support walk free. That’s okay, they’ll be back either as defendants in another murder trial or as victims.
Everyone blames the P.M. for the crime rate in Belize…..but do u ever think that the attorneys play a big part in it…..attonery STOP REPRESENT these criminal….dickie seh noh call no name but he is the one that represent these criminals to the max…..mek da one of his son dem kill…wanda weh he mi wa du?….wonder if he mi wa still REPRSENT THEM?..ALL THESE ATTORNEYS THAT REPRSENT THESE CRIMINALS THEY SHOULD LOCK THEM UP WITH THE CRIMINALS AND THROW AWAY THE KEYS……THEY JUST FULL OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont know if they are guilty or innocent but the Police needs better training and should invest in some trained lawyers for selective crimes like murder, rape and burglary. this would help if certain crimes were investigated by experts in the appropriate field instead of on group doing everything.
The problem is with the dpp department. No law can be of any use without a proactive dpp.amenn
Why am I not surprized that murderers get away easy in Belize.Go ahead murderers continue killing nothing will happen to you.Unless Belize makes some serious adjustments to their justice system.
TRICKY DICKIE ……. strikes again!!!!
DON’T HATE THE PLAYER……. Hate the Game!!!!
If the courts don’t get them…..the streets will get them….plain and simple street justice. This is why Belizeans have lost all faith in the juctice system because there is no justice…The family members of that slain person has no other option put to take matters into their own hands and serve justice where it is rightly due…..and i don’t blame them if they did. Just remember this….the laws of Belize are there to protect the criminals and the criminals alone…..there weren’t made to protect the victims..
dickie seems to be the pimp of the dpp since he always wins their limited training and lack experience. but dickie your chances will someday run bad that’s when ever you decide not to be a lawyer for the criminals then they’ll turn onto you as you bully the dpp. and this might turn ugly for you and your family. now you’re hook to fight for them you can’t turn your back on them, the minute you do you’ll see the consequences of what you’ve been doing all along this time. hope dickie can reflect that with criminal it’s not to play with, you either are with them or against them.
Typical…cases always drop in our courts….especially with lawyers like Dickie…
When are we all going to realize that Gangs and gang members rule. They have the Government, Police, Judiciary, Community, and even the Bar association in fear. It is only the start what will happen when trained professionals like ex- BDF bomb experts and Ex Law Officer join the ranks of the Criminal Empire. We are looking at the forming of the Belizean Zetas.
The gangs are in the pockets of those in power – both UDP & PUP. That’s why they are left alone to do what they do, and that’s why there is no political will to combat this cancer in our country.
Drug Cartels have been here for years, lining “First Belizeans” pockets with millions to allow drugs to pass through Belize with little interference. How many planes & boats pass through, or land and transfer their evil cargo with officials looking the other way (At the same time checking their offshore bank accounts balances on-line).
The only thing stopping us having headless corpses hanging from bridges is the fact that the only bridge that actually crosses a highway is the San Cas footbridge, and the bodies would be difficult to carry up the ramp!
Come on Dickie you know those men, think smart we dont need people like them in sosiety to kill again you know its only a matter of time and they will make head lines again if they come out.you need to find another line of work you getting RUSTY.
