Two men shot at corner of Plues and Berkeley Streets

There was another barrage of bullets on the south side on Thursday night. It happened in one of the City’s most deadly war zones—an area bordered by two rival gangs.  It happened shortly after nine thirty at the intersection of Plues and Berkeley Streets.  But while it was not a deadly incident, it certainly left an air of uneasiness among the residents. News Five made rounds in the neighborhood to get some reaction but the people we tried speaking to on camera about the incident either said they did not know about it or simply avoided us.  When we arrived on the scene, police were still patrolling and scouring the area.  What we do know is that two persons were injured as a result of the gunfire. The victims are thirty five year old Jason Tillett, who was shot in the right knee and twenty six year old Erwin Gladden, who suffered a bullet wound to the left ankle.  They were reportedly riding bicycles on Plues Street when their attacker, believed to have been waiting for them in an overgrown lot, unleashed the slew of bullets at them.  Also according to the police report, one of the slugs missed its target and instead, shattered a resident’s forty inch television set.  Roy Thomas said he was seated in front of the TV when he heard the shots and realized that the bullet actually penetrated the wooden louvers and destroyed the television.  Police continue to investigate the incident.

That no one will even admit to hearing gunshots or being aware of what is going on should scare the stupid out of us. The street is almost deserted during daylight hours because people are afraid. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the area, there are three Primary Schools & one High School within a five block radius, school is about to reopen & there is no reason to believe that will slow the violence. What are we doing to make sure our children get to & from school safely?
