Winners of the National Song Competition take home thousand of dollars

It is one of the first activities of this year’s September celebrations; the National Song Competition was held on Saturday night at the Memorial Park in Belize City. It proved to be full of creativity and patriotism for those who turned out and others who preferred to view it from the comfort of their living rooms.  The winners were announced today and will be taking home thousands of dollars in prizes.

There were three categories and twenty two entrants in the event.  Third place in the Patriotic Juniors category went to Teejay Sambula, who collected a hundred and fifty dollars, and second place went to Kyle Zuniga and Terrick Magdaleno with “I Love Belize”.  They received five hundred dollars.  Third place went to Jaryl Mariano and Carlton Carr for their production called “My Belize”.  For their effort, they took home fifteen hundred dollars.

Meanwhile third place in the Patriotic Seniors went to Ferron Hartshorn for “Belize Belize”, while Leroy “Bass” Castillo captured second for his piece called “Teach Wi Children” and Silas Sabal was best in the category with “Rememba Septemba”.

In the Carnival Seniors category, Barrington Castillo captured third with “Jump Up”, and second place went to Ernestine Carballo with “On Dis Tha Carnival Day” and Tanya Carter wowed the judges with her piece called “My Belize – Belizean Pride”.  The winners in both the Patriotic and Carnival Senior categories collected received one, two and three thousand dollars for third, second, and first respectively.  The theme for this year’s September celebrations is: United and Proud, Moving Forward, I am Belize!”
