More convictions for illegal guns and ammunition
They were busted in separate incidents but today both Ron Myvett and Eugene Tillett heard their fates after being convicted of Keeping Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition. Myvett was caught by police on February thirteenth 2009 with a nine millimetre pistol which contained fifteen live rounds of ammunition. He was riding a bicycle near the Belcan Bridge and when he saw police behind him, he sped up. Growing suspicious, the cops set chase after Myvett, who abandoned his bike and threw a black object as he tried to escape on foot. He was caught and the weapon was recovered.
Tillett, on the other hand, was busted on June twentieth, 2009 with a point twenty-two pistol with five live rounds of ammunitions. He was hanging out in a group of about five men at the corner of Vernon and Mayflower Streets and when police on mobile patrol passed through the area, Tillett pulled the weapon from his pants and discarded it in a nearby drain. The officers stopped, searched the area and detained Tillett when the weapon was found. At the end of the day, both Myvett and Tillett were convicted and were each sentenced to two years for the firearms and another two for the ammunition. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Are you crazy? 2 years for gun possession and also loaded! What do you think have been killing people all this time, Guns! These guys were armed illegally for two reasons ; rob and kill. People that steal get 3,4,5 or 6years. Wow I’m lost for words, God help BELIZE!
2 weapons off the street… Police should always search and harrass those people that always hang out on the street corners. Don’t give them peace… They will eventually dissappear…
Take a good look at them, these are the enemies of belize.
time to experiment with the new gun law on these idiots.
Good for these rats….who knows…the police might have saved two lives at least by detaining these criminals.
Two years behind bars for gun possesion and eight years for snatching a chain get the F out of here.No wonder the murder rate is so high. How is that restoring Belize? When the DPP is telling the criminals that gun possesion is a petty offense.
Two years for a gun charge WTF the gun laws in belize need to be harsher going to jail for two years for a gun isnt jack in the state of New Jersey if your caught with a unlicensed firearm its a second-degree crime, carrying five to 10 years imprisonment, a fine of up to $150,000, or both. The DPP is a joke as well as the judge’s
