Belizeans for Justice to assist shooting victim
Steven Buckley was shot by police in the head in April during a police operation behind the Cummberbatch football field. He was left incapacitated and has been unable to work. In the meantime, his medical and grocery bills have piled up. His four children have also had to endure the pain and have had a difficult time getting ready for the re-opening of school. Members of Belizeans for Justice were touched by Buckley’s plight and have stepped up to help.
Oscar Rosado, Belizeans for Justice
“I had called Mr. Lovell, the CEO of the Ministry of Police last week Saturday and I told him Mr. Buckley needs three different medical tests which are very costly. They come up to like seven, eight hundred dollars and he was very encouraging. He told me to write a letter to the Commissioner of Police and to send him a copy of these medical exams that he needs to get and that he will work on it and see what they can do. So we’re also asking the Police Department and the Minister at this time that there is no official law suit out by the Buckley’s towards the police so the doors are open. Please come in and negotiate with them and they really are in need.”
Marion Ali
“So Belizeans for Justice are negotiating on the Buckley’s behalf?”
Oscar Rosado
“Yes, we are being mediator on the Buckley’s behalf.”
Yolanda Schakron, Member, Belizeans for Justice
“There are sometimes victims that are left crippled or handicapped like Mr Buckley, Ms Cristina Zetina and there’s no one who helps them. So we did our first fundraising, a turkey dinner, we sold about two thousand two hundred dollars and out of that we have given Mr. Buckley four hundred and fifty dollars in supplies. We will give Ms Zetina a grant of five hundred dollars so that she can start a small business from home because, you know, she lost a leg, and what we want to do is give hope to these people.”
Joan Sutherland, Member, Belizeans for Justice
“We will continue fight harder and do everything we can on behalf of Belizeans for Justice. Just like how we are fighting to help Mr. Buckley and Cristina, anybody call on us and we’re there to support them as much as we can.”
Twenty two year old Cristina Zetina was shot, allegedly by a jealous admirer in January of 2008. Lenny Benguche was charged in connection with the shooting and was acquitted of attempted murder but a retrial was ordered for the charge of maim against him.
Great job folks. Mr. Rosado, please make sue you send a copy of that letter to Mr. Singh he is their boss.
Good efforts. Help him to get a proper legal settlement from the Police Dept. that will be a longer lasting assistance.
