Jose Trujeque shot near his home

Two shootings in Belize City left three persons injured, two of whom narrowly escaped death.  We begin with the latter of the two, which took place this morning and left a man holding onto life after he underwent surgery this afternoon.  Jose Trujeque was shot at around ten-thirty this morning not very far away from home.  In fact, the incident happened inside a yard on South Street, only a few blocks away from his house on West Street.  News Five understands that it was Trujeque’s first time visiting with friends.  It appears that someone followed him and less than ten minutes after he was inside the yard they shot him.  While the bullet shattered his chin, it could have claimed his life, had it hit him just above or just below the mark.  The blood stains show that after he got shot, Trujeque stumbled further into the yard before he collapsed on the ground.

The streets are not safe in broad daylight, people are not safe at home in their own beds & the chances of being murdered goes up tenfold if you are in this area. I wish Mr. Trujecke well but someone needs to start looking out for our children who are constantly exposed to this senseless violence. South Street ends at St Ignatius Primary( we buried one of their students this year) & Wesley School is only a few blocks east & this shooting occurred shortly before they went home for dinner. How can we expect our children to witness this level of bloodshed & remain unscathed?

it’s very concerning if there are schools around this area since it seems that violence is being a norm in this area. i’d like to ask the law to please patrol this school area we need to have protection for this school kids, we’ve lost a little belizean brother and we don’t want more. so please either police, bdf or the jaguar something try to monitor these hot spots for violence.

belizeanpride, St. Ignatius is on Euphrates, South St ends there at their front gate. 7 streets to the east, at the corner of South & Albert Streets is Wesley Primary, on the 1st block south on Albert Street West, is Nazarene Primary, on the next block, past Berkeley, is Adventist Primary. Berkeley St east of Albert becomes Cockburn Ln, ACC is on this block. Wesley College is two or three blocks away. What they all have in common is their proximity to South, Berkeley, Plues & George streets, I hope we do not have to bury more children befoe something gets done.
