Briceño says he’s not scared of challenges
While John Briceño was firmly in control at Saturday’s event leading up to the national convention, what’s the future for his Deputy Mark Espat? Briceño says he’s not running from a challenge and what’s more, he is giving the prescribed notice for any potential threat. As to what started the ruckus last week from the parliamentarians, Briceño says he did not contemplate holding a national convention on September twenty-sixth.
Jose Sanchez
“Do you welcome a challenge from Mark Espat?”
John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition
“As I’ve said before, I am not scared of any challenge from anybody. It is the right and I think the privilege of any individual to want to lead this great party of ours. For me it has been an honor. If honorable the Mark Espat would want to do so, that is his decision or anybody else. We need it to move it away from the personalities but more important that anybody has the right to put their name if they want to lead this party.”
Jose Sanchez
“But do you accept that by calling an early convention, people may see it as a strategic move, so any challengers can’t muster enough support?”
John Briceño
“If you are interested in wanting to challenge in your case, in an organization, you have to start from early. Everybody knows there is going to be a national convention in this party as mandated by the party. If anyone wants to do that they should have started to work a long time ago. Under the present constitution I need to give one week notice for nominations and one month notice for conventions. What I have done is to use the proposed changes, the amendments to the constitution, giving more time to everybody. We are giving two weeks notice so whosoever wants to run can decide and get nominated for that. The constitution has a provision for the national party council to call for a special convention. Today the national party council, they are the ones that have called for us to have a convention as early as possible.”
Jules Vasquez, Channel 7
“Have you ever contemplated September twenty-sixth as the date for the convention, and did you change that date, based on the meeting you had with the parliamentarians and the implicit threat that they supposedly, collectively represent?”
John Briceño
“No.”
Jules Vasquez
“You never intended September twenty-sixth?”
John Briceño
“No.”
The horse trading is now underway as the new executive takes shape.
Either the man is a fool or he’s a fool. Briceno says he is not scared of the threat his leadership is facing. if that is the way he sees things, then he has no vision. By the way, congrats to Said Musa, nice move at the convention. Musa did not show but he was well represented. Nice. Vey slick. Very crafty. I like slick operators.
Musa hit the road, raise the funds and start planning your comeback. Briceno is a joke. Yes, yes, Musa and his gang messed up, but at least they were not stupid. Give me crooked over stupid any day. Crooked can help us to get rid of this UDP nightmare; but stupid won’t.
‘The PUP is not for 1,2,3 or 100- the PUP, IS for thousands of belizeans who were on said musa’s side for 10 years, and because of his errors the people decided it was time for a change and that was shown,in February,2008, it was one of the worst defeat of the PUP, in the history of belize, the people wanted a change now they got it “.we all know what we are going through with this vindictive, arrogant UDP ,government- we’ve gone from bad to worst…. the people want change again, and we the supporters of the PUP call for unity, we all know that the majority of supporters are PUP’S and that the UDP cannot win without the votes of the PUP’S and they are the ones that want change again.they are the ones being victimised by the UDP gov’t and they voted for them.’
Johnny Briceno is CHANGE……… Said Musa IS NOT!!!!
