Five injured in Boom/Hattieville Road traffic accident
Marion Ali is just back from a traffic accident on the Boom/Hattieville Road. Five persons were injured and hospitalized. The incident occurred shortly before five this evening at the entrance to Fresh Pond and involved a heavy truck used for transporting sand and a smaller Ford pick-up truck. Five persons were travelling in the pickup truck, two of them have been identified as Silfred Flowers and Ruben Vasquez. All are currently in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital receiving treatment and their conditions have been diagnosed as stable. Anthony Coleman, the driver of the heavy truck, told News Five what happened.

“Yeah, I mi come get wah load ah sand. Weh happen ih mi di rain, di road slippery and I mi di come from dis way from di north side and wah vehicle come from behind my truck and weh ih wet, ih si mi slow down and ih mash brakes and ih loose control and run into di back ah di truck.”

“Dat dah di silver truck weh wi si ova deh?”

“Yeah, di Ford Ranger; di four door Ford Ranger pick-up truck.”

“I understand some people got hurt. Were they with you or with them?”
Anthony Coleman
“Nobody with me. All the people was in di pick-up.”

“You don’t know them?”
Anthony Coleman
“No, this have a Stann Creek license plate.”
Marion Ali
“So you were trying to negotiate a left turn in that road?”
Anthony Coleman
“Yeah, but di speed ah weh di vehicle di come, I di try get out ah di way but apparently I still di move too slow and dehn mi di come fast and dehn roll right. like weh dehn always seh, when di road wet yoh tek yoh time but apparently dehn mussy mi di try reach home so.”

“You didn’t get hurt?”

“No, I didn’t get hurt but damages to the trailer. Di impact ah di Ford Ranger when ih hit di vehicle broke di axle and burst one ah di tire. Di tire fell off di trailer.”

“From what you observed—I know that the ambulance had to take some people to the hospital—from what you observed, anybody looked very serious to you?”
Anthony Coleman
“Well yeah, di driver; di driver for di ford Ranger but …”
Marion Ali
“Where was he injured?”
Anthony Coleman
“By the head. He get knocked by di head and crushed by di steering wheel by ih chest area.”

“Anybody else?”
Anthony Coleman
“Yeah, a few more people. I noh sure if some ah dehn mi deh behind di vehicle but I know some ah dehn get like scratches and mild…”

“They were in the pan of the vehicle.”
Anthony Coleman
“The pan of the vehicle, yes. Basically, dat dah weh happen.”
