Domestic Abuse Victim gets charged with manslaughter

Shamir Henry of the Belize Defence Force was stabbed to death by his estranged common-law-wife, Leshawn Lino, last Thursday. It is believed to have been a fatal end to one of their many domestic disputes. Lino appeared in court today to be charged for Henry’s death and the question in everyone’s mind was “murder or manslaughter?” She was read a single charge of Manslaughter, for which no plea was taken and bail was granted at seven thousand dollars. Henry met his death on the eve of Lino’s twenty-fourth birthday, when he visited her and they got into a fight. According to police, Henry started beating Lino in her yard and she allegedly stabbed him once to the neck with a kitchen knife. Henry tried to flee but collapsed a few feet away. Records show that Lino had several complaints of domestic abuse against Henry, some of which were still pending in court. Lino’s case was adjourned until October twenty-second. Henry was the father of Lino’s two year old daughter.
Henry was a monster, wearing a Belize defence force uniform, and he got what he deserved, no doubt of that in my mind.
She killed her attacker in self-defence, that attaker was a monster who emotionally, and pyhsically abused her over and over again. She killed him in a manner that is considered less culpable than murder.

He went to her parents house where he was not allowed. Why was he not prosecuted before since it appears that his abuse was common knowledge to everyone in the area including the Police.
Do we need to form a Battered Women’s Posse to make DPP & BPD treat her like the thugs, I doubt she will be running down the steps of the court house, arms raised in victory.
Why the F do these idiots even charge this young lady when there is record to prove that she’s been in an abusive relationship.Is there even an organization to represent young women like Lino who’s been a victim of domestic violence?.Why wasn’t this young lady given some form of counselling?What was she suppose to do when this idiot Henry start beating her?That is selfdefense.Why is the DPP so quick to convict this young lady for defending herself when they can’t even convict those guys that are comitting senseless murders in the Jewel.Typical example of Cow no weh week fence Deh.

This woman should not be charged she should be be given serious counselling by professionals. The court need to be set on fire if you ask me.
Sounds logical. Henry was probably used to intimidating her and beating her. She had enough and since the police/dpp/court system never did something solid to stop the dometic violence, she ended the abuse herself.
I hope she gets Aurthur Saldivar or Dickie Bradley as her attorney so that she can finally get justice and enjoy life without the aggressor.
That is not right, she need to walk off that case,he has no right or any one to trespass on your property.Plz get a very good attorney .
Yes it is true that the young lady was living in an abusive relationship , but that gave her no right to commit murder she could have left the relationship from a long time ago. MURDER IS MURDER!!! she did her crime now she have to live with the consequences.
Oniel, what if that was your daughter. The man came on her propoerty, was beating her. She defended herself. She should be given counseling, and set free. Good for her. He get what is coming for him.

Is this the modern day reincarnation of Nora Parham she set an abusive policeman on fire half a century ago & despite the country’s outrage she was executed if I remember the story correctly.
She deserves to walk free. Police& the BDF take advantage of thier position. They think the law will protect them thats why they do whatever they want and for us woman it is difficut to complain because the law don’t pay any attention whenever we complain. He get what he was looking for.
I totally agree with Concerned, 100%, why because Henry had the knowledge, and the ability to known that he violated his -ex common law wife rights, all she did was defend her self after all he did was hit her all the time like a bouncing ball. I work at the City Of Chicago domestic violence hotline.

Yes Metro used to abuse her and yes she has a lot of complaints and charges at the Ladyville Police Station against him but she was the one who would always go back and drop the charges so he could walk free. She should be charged with MURDER and given the maximum years possible as she had clear intentions that she wanted to kill him from the time she came out of the house with a knife in hand. Moreover, stabbing him once was good enough but she had to stab him over and over again (9 times) which proves that she wanted to kill him. I don’t agree with the Manslaughter charge and I will stick to my point that she should be charged with Murder.
Only women who have been in an abusive relationship can really have an idea of how Leshawn felt. Women sometimes live in this type of relationships for years because they are afraid to speak or because no one listens to their pleas, in this case. I’m sure she had enough of this and acted in self defense, i’m sure she did not want to kill him but just give him a lesson. She was tired of being physically abused, we are all humans and everyone has his/her day- an end to this had to come someway. LET HER FREE…WHY DIDN’T POLICE ACT WHEN SHE COMPLAINED?

Common ppl. Obviously she was defending herself. I bet if she wanted to murder the …… she would have stabbed him a couple more times. Plus wasnt the story that he went to luk for her?? She didnt go and luk for him! I totally believe it was self defense!!
Its sad to see the ignorance in my fellow Belizeans. Not because one man has a history of abuse it means that he was abusing his power. BDF has no power sad to say….. so I dont know what power us speaking of. I agree that self defence may be the case, but if it was your son, would you want her to walk free without even a fair trial to let her prove her innocense? I dont think so……………………………..
I agree this young lady has to walk free. she got enough and there are records to prove it. Something should have been done earlier but now it’s late. It was SELF DEFENSE
