Caye Caulker businesswoman commits suicide with a loaded gun
A popular businesswoman from Caye Caulker is dead after she ended her life this afternoon on the island. We don’t normally report on these stories, but fifty-five year old Patricia Holding was the wife of OJ Holding and together they own Ocean View Night Club and she was well known on the island. Shortly after one this afternoon something went awfully wrong. Officer in charge of the Caye Caulker Police Station, Sergeant Leslie Wade says while police are not ruling out anything, all indications are that Patricia committed suicide.
Sgt. Leslie Wade, O.C., Caye Caulker (via phone)
“We visited the Ocean Side Nightclub which is situated on Sun Street, Caye Caulker Village. The upper flat which is the residence of Mister Orville John Holding, he’s a businessman. Once there we went inside a room where the lifeless body of his wife, Miss Patricia Beth Holding, she is also a businesswoman. This body was seen lying straight up a bed suffering from what appears to be a single gunshot wound to the middle of her chest. Our initial investigations reveal that Miss Patricia Beth Holding was suffering from depression and was taking medication in respect to the depression. We also extracted a suicidal note from her laptop computer. This note was being emailed to several friends in Belize here and also in the U.S. The scene was processed by scenes of crime personnel where a point twenty-five caliber pistol, sterling brand with serial number and also a magazine containing two rounds and a point twenty-five expended shell was also retrieved.”
Police are trying to ascertain what exactly was bothering Patricia but she had been taking medication for depression for some time.

Patricia entire murder scene could have been set up my her murderer.
The murderer knowing two well that the belize police will never be smart enough to solve premeditated murders.
Another case open and closed.
Why didn’t one of this lady’s so called friend reack out to her after knowing what her intention was?
And why don’t you normally report on suicides? Is that by choice, or is it because the cases are rarely reported?
Elgin this so called lady was an amazing strong independent woman, she was someone that you can talk to and she would listen, some might say it was her job but she always looked happy. Both her and her husband have always been great persons in the community. Sometimes Elgin we do not share what is our deepest worries to know one, sometimes the breaking point comes when we least expect it and the reaction on every individual is different. Please keep her in prayers and OJ too cause no one knows the pain that he is going through at the moment
This one really looks fishy, a thorough forensic investigation needs to be carried out into this case If this woman is an American citizen, the government should request the assistance of the U.S Embassy in bringing down qualified professional investigators to assist with the investigation.
who commits suicide by shooting themself in the chest, the suicide note conveniently placed on the computer has led the police to close the case immediately, any gun residue test done on the victim, lets wait for the report of the “forensic pathologist”. please, we are stilllllllllllllll waiting for the post mortem report onthe gentleman found dead at the Hungry Monkey restaurant in Belize City weeks ago
@why, there are a few reasons why media houses should not report suicides.
FIrst, it’s a deeply personal tragedy and the dignity and privacy of the victim and their loved ones should be respected. The media does not report on every death, only those of prominent people or victims of crimes and tragic accidents. The suicide of an “ordinary person” that occurs in private without putting the public at risk is not news. Nor should it be. Just like the fatal heart attack or the cancer death of an average citizen does not get reported in the media.
Second, suicide, or attempted suicide, is considered by many to be a call for attention. There is a belief that publicizing suicides, or suicide attempts, may encourage others to try the same. It’s for this reason that media houses in large cities never report on people who attempt to jump from building or bridges. At most they may report that “traffic was backed up due to a police incident”.
Personally, I am not sure that this suicide should have been reported in the media. You might argue she was a prominent person in her community, but then so was Everald Tut from San Ignacio. Yet his death from dengue last week was unreported. Would his passing have made the news if he had taken his own life? Sadly, it might have.
In fairness to Channel 5, they have historically been the most restrained media house when it comes to reporting on suicides.
Again, we must read about another person; who for reasons unknown–chooses to “take” their life. It is truly sad, and even though I only know “this lady” through these emails; something does not seem right. The picture I get of her, is that she was a very caring/intelligent and strong person. If she shared her cares/concerns and worries, with anyone (in Belize or US); why wouldn’t her “friends” have noticed something.
The real story will come out, sooner or later. God be with her family.
I dont know the woman or the personal problems she was going through but it doesn’t seem logical to commit suicide and shoot urself in the chest. Head or mouth would be the main area that a person choose if they want to die, pls check if this woman has any insurance policy out and who will get it.
well i can tell you all that you will never know how someone died in belize because the person this gov has to do post mortems is an animal doctor he couldnt tell you nothing about how someone really died , cant blame him but here we go this gov again putting incompetent people in gov positions that have no right being there.
My condolences to Mr Holding and his family.
BT : A very balanced argument, nicely put forward. I learnt something from you today and enjoyed reading you blog.
rod: you’ve got it right Mario Estrada got some stone age skills he really need to upgrade his skills.
What about buildig a facility where we can provide counseling for our Citizens that might be going through some hard times?Instead of having meetings with gang leaders, why not address the nation on some of the real issues Mr PM?
This is something fishy.of course mario estradabran is a prehistoric forensic doctor, and the training of those crimminals on payroll, their training r outdated.if they need a clue plis verify who will collect her insurance. Something is not cooking good out there.
This is a joke.Never in my like heard of someone commiting suicide by shooting themself in the chest. To point a gun in your chest is not so easy.Y not the head?I hope it was not police that gave the media this kind of info Dummm. R.I.P. Peace
