Two win “Penta Paint Up Di Place” art competition
Penta Paint Up Di Place, that is the name of an exhibition organised by the Habet Group of Companies, one of largest distributions of paint and hardware in Belize. The exhibition opened at the Image Factory in Belize City yesterday and selected pieces from students of primary and secondary schools countrywide are displayed.
Of the chosen thirty-nine pieces of artwork submitted by students, twelve were short-listed and eventually one was selected as the best. The winning painting is the work of two graduates of Sacred Heart High School, Joris Groenendaal and Amaury Contreras, who received five hundred dollars each and additionally the organizers will “paint up di school” with Penta. Their artwork will also be converted into a public mural on the school grounds. The other eleven finalists will each receive one hundred dollars. The art exhibition will be available for viewing until October fifteenth and all twelve paintings will be used for the Habet Group’s calendar for the coming New Year.
The response to this initiative was so overwhelming that it convinced the Habet Group to hold the competition as an annual event.
