Belizean held in Chetumal with large quantity of drugs
And while on the issue of drugs, there is a new twist to the growing number of cases involving the importation of drugs into Belize. And a report from neighboring Chetumal today says that Mexican state police intercepted and detained a vehicle that was carrying various types of drugs heading to Belize yesterday. According to the reports, an unidentified caller reported to Mexican authorities that two men in a red Ford Explorer, with license plates C-15523, were acting suspicious. Police caught up with the vehicle in the area of Mahatma Ghandi in Chetumal and in a search found various types of drugs. According to the Commissioner of Police, Gumersindo Jimenez Cuervo, the owner of the vehicle was identified as Orlando Alfonso de la Fuente, a thirty-five year old Belizean who told police that he had bought the drugs at numerous pharmacies for eventual retail in Belize. And according to the Mexican Commissioner, de la Fuente also said that for years he has been trading the drugs and did not know it was an offense to do so.
