Minor charged for escape and shooting of cop

lloyd elijio

Earlier we told you about the murder of Marlon Zelaya, which may be linked to the shooting of Police Constable Abel Mendez last Tuesday. Today a second person was charged with Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm and Use of Deadly Means of Harm of the police constable.  The suspect, a seventeen year old minor, is charged jointly with nineteen year old Lloyd Elijio for the attack which left Mendez with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and left arm.  Mendez was along with another officer, Abelio Itza, on their way to a robbery in progress when between Morning Glory and Peter Seco Streets, they spotted two youths double-riding.  One of the youths jumped off the bicycle when he sighted police and ran into a nearby yard, but the other produced a handgun and opened fire on the cops.  Today the youth was read the charges in the presence of his mother and was remanded to the Wagner’s Youth Facility until October thirteenth.  He was captured over the weekend and held at the Caribbean Shores Police Station but managed to get away briefly.  As a result, he has also been additionally charged with Escape – a charge which he will face on Tuesday in the Belize Family Court.

  2. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST says:

Make an example of these animals; just shoot them, the public won’t be mad this time.
They are a danger to that society, eliminate, eliminate.

I hope this 17 year old will be prosecuted as an adult & this is just a formality which will get addressed before he goes to trial. There are times when we need to look at the crime that was committed & act accordingly. We cannot continue to treat these felons like “lee bwai”.

  4. Elgin Martinez says:

Minor or not,if you’re man enough to commit the crime then do the time.

  5. Al says:

What gets me is how these criminals exit the court house smiling and mocking teh justice system and the law abiding citizens. Get on these criminals. They are repeat offenders becasue they know they know the law is broken.

There we have it again, I hope the cops are starting to look closer at these guys riding bicycles around the city committing these crimes, they are so easy to spot especially at night when most hard working people are at home. Like I said before, it seems to be the main mode of transportation for these low life criminals which seems to be the biggest problem in the city, maybe the cops are just scared because I see so many road blocks set up in the day time in Belize city when hard working people are trying to get to work they seem to be a nuisance, why not set them up at night time to catch some of these criminals which seems to be the time when they mostly operate. Since the crime problems are such an issue in the city it seems like the cops should be more prevalent at night instead of working on a skeleton crew at night they should be working full shifts at night and doing their skeleton crew in the day time, I think it would cut down on the crimes big time.

  7. Proud says:

Eradicate the problem from he root. The Bible says “a tree that bears no good fruit must be cut down to its root”. Criminals must be eliminated.

  8. Carlos trujillo says:

Do them a big favour please shoot them but dont kill them let paralized 4 life. And let starve them to death.
