Shooting victim clings to life after three bullets to the face
A man is in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital following a shooting last night in Belize City. Thirty-four year old Freddy Grant was shot three times in the face and once in the back. The bullet exited through his abdomen, ripping through his intestines and rendering him critically wounded. Grant, a resident of Mile two on the Western Highway, was reportedly standing at the corner of Vernon Street and Conch Shell Bay when a lone gunman on a bicycle fired several shots as he rode past him. The attacker is believed to be a childhood friend of the victim and family members believe that the incident was planned since the two men have been archrivals for some time because of – you guessed it – an “old beef”.
Janet Vasquez, Sister of Shooting Victim

“Who dah Leon?”
Janet Vasquez
“Wah lee young bwai from back ah conch shell Bay.”
Marion Ali
“Dehn dah friends or why he think Leon shot ah?”
Janet Vasquez
“Well, dah wah lee beef dehn got from long time, wah lee misunderstanding between dehn two. Dehn mi done do ah thing and he mi done end up dah hospital before and he always does tell me dat this le young bwai still have beef wid ah. I know di lee young bwai good, and he know ah good. All ah we heng out da di same spot sometimes.”
Marion Ali
“So weh you think trigger Leon fi mek ih shoot ah when did; just when he did last night?”
Janet Vasquez
“Well, I think the night before dehn mussy mi have wah lee misunderstanding between dehn two and he mussy just si ah the next night di drink out deh and den he mussy decide fi just gone. Weh I hear, ih mi deh by ihself, nobody mi really deh round ah at the time when dat happen. So di young bwai look like ih just wait till ih si ah by ihself fi du ah dat. My bredda seh ih noh want no case with ah. So dat dah between deh two.”
A shooting incident was also reported in the Cayo District. Fifty-eight year old Yalbac Farm manager, Robert Cavness, reported that around four-thirty Wednesday evening he was driving home and upon approaching the Valley of Peace Road, he heard gunshots. Cavness says he sped off and did not stop driving until he reached Buena Vista Village where he noticed that his vehicle had four bullet holes in it. Police are investigating.
