Construction worker in jail for unlicensed firearm
You will know by now that the recent amendment to the Firearm Act guarantees a free ticket to prison if you are found in possession of firearms or ammunition without the required licenses and that no bail is allowed. Twenty-seven year old, construction worker of Kelly Street, Steven Lemoine, is behind bars tonight for violating the act. And in Magistrates’ Court today, Lemoine was remanded to Hattieville prison after he pleaded not guilty to charges of Keeping a Firearm and Ammunition without a gun license. On Monday night police, acting on a tip-off, went to a Freetown Road address where they found Lemoine in possession of a Smith and Wesson nine millimetre pistol. When the police ordered him to freeze, Lemoine dropped the gun and surrendered. Police retrieved the weapon and found eight live rounds of ammunition in its magazine. Lemoine was booked and is scheduled to re-appear in court on October thirtieth.
