Chester Williams puts down badge to take up a law degree

Two senior officers of the Belize Police Department who will likely not be here for the storm, are Senior Superintendent of Police, Chester Williams and Superintendent Bart Jones. Williams, who was in charge of the Cayo police formation, left Belize today en route to the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies in Barbados where he will pursue law degrees. Jones, who once acted as the Department’s Press Officer, left on Wednesday also to study law. Williams is the cop who had a meteoric rise in the force but fell as fast and was transferred to a desk job after a dispute with Superintendent Edward Broaster.

“I am going to Cave Hills University in Barbados to pursue a bachelor’s in law degree—that is a three year course. Att he completion of the three years then I should be moving on to Norman Manly Law School in Jamaica in Jamaica to pursue a certificate in Legal Education so the entire course will be for five years.”

“When you complete your course, is it with a view to coming back and joining the ranks of the police department again or will you branch off into law?”

“Marion, I am a career policeman. I have no intentions of leaving the police department upon completion of my law program. I believe that it is high time that the police department begin to invest in officers to become more legally qualified. We see every day on our local talk shows how our department is being criticized because of inexperienced people. So I believe that this is a good thing for myself to do and I can also state that my colleague, Mister Jones, is already in Barbados. So both of us had the same intentions that when we return that we’ll return to the ranks of the police department. The department and the people of Belizean have been good to us and it is only prudent that upon completion we continue to offer our service and expertise to the people of Belize.”
Williams says his first year of studies is self-sponsored but he will seek the government’s assistance to complete the course.

Good luck to both of you & I hope you are sincere about returning to the force. I would hate to see you return & abuse the weaknesses in the system the way many of our politically connected lawyers are now doing.
Setting aside personalities, conflicts, and everything else, I agree that Belize law enforcement needs many more legally trained people who are committed to protecting the public. I hope for the best.

Maddy, the Idiots part was uncalled for. Congrats to both officers and I hope that other officers alike will follow your footsteps. Qualifying yourself is not only good for you and the department, but also for Belize as you will see things from a different perspective and will uphold the law in a better manner.

You’re right Earl gray I think Chester would b an excellent commissioner n do a damn great job. Even as DPP best believe he’d make charges stick. Idk y they started playing politics n sent him out of the city, he was doing a damn good jobs. He vwasnt liked but he was respected by both law abiding citizens n criminals. Again I say all the best – I’m proud to call u my friend n I wish other officers would carry the motivation u do.

We expect sr. supt. Chester Williams to return to Belize with his degree and to help turn the tables around from corrupt to doing the right thing.
When he returned to Belize please send him to Belmopan, where we are always open to the decent. Perhaps Chester could teach losers like Troll-Grey-Demonkeyman how to be a man, and lead a successful life.
