Does the public support pension funds to buy shares in Telemedia?

The prospectus for the sale of shares in Telemedia will be made public on October fifteenth.   On Thursday, the Telemedia Employees Trust announced it is interested in acquiring majority shares. It is also known that Digicel Caribbean and the Social Security Board are also in discussions about the purchase of shares. We asked the public if they support pension funds in the SSB to be used to buy shares in Telemedia. Eighty-five of those who polled said no, while fifteen percent said yes. One viewer pointed out that Social security is primarily a social insurance program providing social protection for the old, the Disability, Medicare, etc. The viewer added (quote) The social security program was not set up for the people to go buy shares with that money; this is just insane, and should not be acceptable. (unquote)
