Body of deportee washes up on Southern Foreshore
Was a twenty-three year old deportee murdered? That’s what police are trying to determine. This weekend, the high tide in Belize City did not only wash sea water and debris closer to the mainland; on Sunday morning, the lifeless body of a Belize City man washed up on Southern Foreshore. It was partially decomposed and was floating face up when it was spotted as early as six-forty-five in the morning. Hours later the pathologist arrived at the scene and the body was transported to the K.H.M.H. He has been identified as twenty three year old Sherlock Syfox who was last seen at Tipsy Corner Bar at the corner of Freetown Road and Douglas Jones Street on Saturday. Syfox also known as ‘Big Boy’ was deported to Belize last year for probation violation, aggravated robbery, and overstaying his time. News Five was on the scene at Southern Foreshore when Syfox’s body was found.
Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
“Police visited an area in Southern Foreshore, where around the area of Prince Street, they found the body of Sherlock Syfox, twenty-three years, Belizean male. He was floating in the sea. The body was retrieved where initial examination of the body by investigators show that there were no visible signs of violence but we know that a post mortem has been conducting and we are awaiting the results of that post mortem.”
Jose Sanchez
“At the time of the discovery of the body, no family member was around. How were you able to identify Mister Syfox?”
Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood
‘What happened, I put out through the media a description of the body including some tattoos that were on the body. Apparently, by hearing this on the news, a family member came and identified the body as that of her nephew. A female did come in and said that it is her nephew and that is how we ended up with the identity.”
Jose Sanchez
“At this point, does the family live anywhere near the sea? Did they say if he had a history of going swimming? Have they indicated anything that could have assisted you?”
“Well not as yet. There is no indication of whether or not he was in that habit of going swimming. So we are relying so much on the post mortem results.”
Up to news time the post mortem examination results have not been released.
WE NEED THE REST OF THE STORY………………
He managed to get out of the country & brought attention to himself by committing a crime which resulted in him being deported back to Belize.
Maybe he drank enough liquid courage & chose to end his life by drowning himself in the sea.
Last seen at a bar, found dead.
Very likely the criminal/deportee did not died of natural causes. So be it.
Agree. 1 less criminal off the street
Sounds like we’ll never know what transpired.
only God knows how many other people he killed already and thought that he’s had enuff and join his victims……. true crime stopper “1 less on the street” lets get rid of them all.
Let’s remember that we don’t even know half of the story. This is just the Police’s version after their half – baked preliminary investigation. Let’s wait for more details. I’m very skeptical of how some of these Police news are given to the media. The Belize Police dept tries to desensitize viewers by presenting some of the victims of murder as criminals with prior bad acts, and “pasts”. That way we just dismiss another heinous crime as something justified, when in reality it’s probably another case of cold bloodied murder, by someone who should be behind bars!
The Mother called KREM this morning saying something that Police took the body to be buried at Boom and the Aunt had to go get the body from there. What the hell? Perhaps it was because of the state of decomposition. But this person still have family regardless of that…they should be properly informed. Not only that, some friend this deceased had……..his friend knew he was drunk and ran off…..persued by others……..and he failed to help his friend or inform the police. The mother also said that her son was threatened before and that he had no reason to steal because she sent him money often. Sorry for her lost but instead of upholding their children in wrong doings, Mothers need to encourage their children to stay out of the bar-rooms and to learn to control themselves and abide by the laws.
I dont know this guy but ppl should be ashamed of themselves and think before they write posts about ppl that they dont know. Yes he is a deportee among many other that are in Bze he didn’t kill anyone in d US to get him sent hope so why is that an issue. This young man will killed and thrown into the sea and we should be interested in what really happened instead of passing foolish judgement on ppl, someone child was killed lets remember that ppl.
WAKE UP BELIZE – If you would STOP trying to be like the GODDam YANKEE you would be worth something. I consider many time comming home but what for. Belize is just a SMALL AMERICA, just a waste of time to deal with the same SH*T on a sAMLLER AND BACKWard scale. I’M A SHAME OF CALLING MYSELD A BELIZEAN.
Its sad to here what happend to this young man, my deepest sempathy goes out to the family. Howeveryou guys ……… need to get your facts straight he wasnt deported for those stuff mention he was here illigally and while here he broke the law and was given another chance and continue to do so. Belize is the only country that allows americans to go there and do what they the should be treated the same way.
BZNinCALI you are stupid my brother wouldn’t drink to kill his why he was getting ready to have child maybe you should go drink and kill your self since that thought you think stupid MFA he wasn’t a criminal he trying to get a job a live life he did nothing wrong in Belize people need to stop making assumptions of they do not know because he is criminal all you Belize people are criminals if that is the case my brother has never kill anybody fight yes not kill. He followed the law he did not want to return jail especially in Belize. My mother also warned and encourage my brother stay home and not to be involved because she knew of the possibly that just like your mother telling you do something and choice to other wise. You people act you have never didn’t anything wrong. Praying for Peace for parents and if you have kids and are passing this type of judgment then you should think about if was your Child was kill because you as well as my parents don’t know when time will come.
September to remember: You always make a lot of sense, sometimes people take these stories at face value. They don’t read it and analysis what was said. These stories are deliberately presented to whip up all these different reactions.
i know this man he was n still is a part of my family he never killed anybody 2 let u people who dont know him know so show some respect this is somebody son think about if it was your brother r dad
How many times do i have to say that no one in the jewel is safe? What has the GOB done to decrease crime after little Eyannie’s death?NADA, I mean nothing. Come on my Belizean people let’s get to the real issues here and start holding these people responsible.
REST IN PEACE SHERLOCK you are missed and loved.
LP, ouch!! I understand your grief & your need to lash out at someone. If calling me names makes you feel better, I’m glad I was able to help. Thanks for the offer but I appreciate sobriety & there is nothing you or anyone can say to make me drink myself into a stupor & commit suicide.
Don’t shoot the messenger? If you do not know that fighting is a crime, it explains why your brother continuously made poor choices but it is unfortunate that his life ended at this age in such a tragic manner. There are a lot of things that are considered crimes that fall short of murder to which ignorance is not a defense.
No parent should outlive their child, unfortunately some of us have. The same way I did not always listen to my parents, my children do not always listen to me just like your brother did not heed your mother’s warnings & scoffed at her concerns. Now his child will never know his/her father. The price young men & women from your generation are paying for being “haud ayz” is death, not pregnancy or a black eye.
We all make mistakes but being aware of some of the stupid things Belizeans have done that put them on a collision course with the US justice system, I refuse to listen to excuses. Complaining about being treated unfairly takes the responsibility for their action off them & helps no one. I didn’t kill your brother maybe he didn’t commit suicide but don’t lose sight of the fact that his decision making left a lot to be desired & attacking me or any other Belizean who dared to express a view that you found offensive does not change that fact. Let’s hope that your brother’s death will be a lesson to other young men. Peace.
Maybe bznincali one day your death will be unsolved like i have said before you know nothing so what you dont know you should not speak upon of decisions is your life. He made some bad ones but you dont understand my grief so when one of your children died and you dont know what happen than speak……
LP, No one knows for sure what happened to your brother & our system in Belize is not set up to provide answers I have lost family members to murder & I know the feeling of having my soul ripped out & feeling every muscle in my body convulse with grief over the death of a child whom I loved as a son & was trying to get out of the war zone. Like you, I lashed out but chose to channel my anger into something positive. I know how he died, someone put a gun to his head & pulled the trigger, no one has been convicted, that does not make it any easier. I am not your enemy, my unsolved death won’t make you feel better & frankly I still have unfinished business that needs to get done before my final exit, you may be an old man before I check out. Use your anger & grief to bring about change. You sound like a decent kid who loved your brother, love & is very protective of your mother, that is what all of us who are parents ask of our children.
Keep your chin up & know that I want the best for you.
