Yes to I Do, Channel 5 follows Julio & Vanesa to marital bliss
The spectacular comeback of Channel Five’s reality wedding airs tonight. The wedding of Julio and Vanessa was interrupted when the groom was injured in a traffic accident in July. Vanessa remained constant at his bedside nursing Julio to recovery. Well, Julio is now back on his feet and the couple’s wedding preparations have resumed. News’ Five Isani Cayetano has a look back at the love story that was tested and prevailed.
Reality couple Vanessa Ramos and Julio Escalante were set to tie the knot on live television on August 21st but a near fatal traffic mishap forced them to postpone their wedding which was scheduled to air on Channel Five’s ‘From Yes To I Do.’ The first of its kind local program followed the pair as they went about preparations for their big day. Things seemed to have been going well for the young couple until an unforeseen incident landed Julio in the KHMH. On July 7th while returning to work from lunch Julio was knocked off his bicycle by a motorist who suffered an epileptic fit behind the steering wheel of his vehicle. Badly injured he was rushed to the hospital by his nephew Ryan Locke and a Good Samaritan who rendered assistance.

“One guy stopped and helped us, he give us a hand by brought him into the hospital but according, an eyewitness came to us personal and told us that the driver of the vehicle was gazing and they were yelling at him to let him stop but maybe it was too late and he was already upon him which he hit him and he fell on his face and the vehicle continued which he run over him and dragged like three feet from which he was hit.”
It’s been a long road to recovery for the twenty-three year old groom-to-be. The ordeal left him bedridden with a broken pelvis, jaw and a fractured shoulder. From the onset his prognosis was grim and his health failed repeatedly due to a collapsed lung.

“Well, so far what I last heard, it was bruised because of being crushed. They did a CT scan again on his chest and I haven’t gotten the results as yet.”
‘From Yes To I Do’ resumed briefly later that month with one episode focusing entirely on Julio’s recovery. Doctors shared their professional opinions on his chances of a hundred percent healing while his future wife remained at his bedside around the clock offering comfort and care.

“At first I was down, but now seeing his improvements I’m really happy you know and excited and thanks to the good Lord everything is working out well.”
In the middle of the ordeal was the couple’s daughter Alyssa. There were times when Julio wanted to play with her despite his poor physical condition.

“Right now he still can’t sit up, of course he can’t walk. He only turns from side to side and over. The doctor says still not to push it because sometimes I tell him he’s pushing it because sometimes he wants to put Alyssa on his chest and I say no, you can’t do that. So certain little things like playing with her, eh still plays with her on the bed but she’s getting more active daily so things like those he misses.”
That was a month ago and since then a lot has happened. Julio is now back on his feet and looking good. He is still not fully his normal self but he’s getting their gradually. The good news for viewers is that starting tonight they can once again follow their favorite local reality couple as preparations continue for Julio and Vanesa’s giant leap of fate into marriage.
