3 planes with undocumented Chinese nationals given a free pass
There is more on the plane that landed at the Philip Goldson International Airport this past Sunday. Today a team of police officers were at the P.G.I.A. investigating and it turns out that at least three planes may have landed with Chinese nationals over the past few weeks. The first flight arrived on Saturday September eighteenth with thirteen passengers. The second flight arrived on Sunday September nineteenth with seven passengers and the third flight arrived this past Sunday October third with thirteen passengers. That means thirty-four Chinese nationals came through customs and immigration without any documentation. According to sources at the airport no declaration for the passengers could be found at relevant departments. Customs forms were missing, and the officers posted at the airport claim they were stolen. Two custom officers have been transferred while the investigation is ongoing. And one of the two officers is under investigation because he was on active duty when all three flights landed at the P.G.I.A. From what we know, there are two investigations into the flights since they appear to reek of collusion across the highest levels of customs and immigration departments. One is being conducted by the police and the other, the minister himself is attending to. But back to the most recent flight on Sunday, it seems that two declaration forms were made. One form said that no passengers were on the flight and another was made to say that there were thirteen passengers. What we know is that the plane flew from the island of Dominica to the island of Hispaniola where it picked up passengers in Port Au Prince. It is not certain if the original pilot was Haitian but when the plane landed in Belize, a Haitian pilot was commanding the vessel. The plane, HI871, was allowed to land at seven in the night at the PGIA. It was originally scheduled to land earlier, but was delayed. The chartered flight was cleared and the passengers were allowed to disembark and leave the airport without any hassle. The passengers, we are told, are mostly Chinese nationals. Our calls to the Department of Immigration in Belmopan went unanswered. No one can verify where the visas were issued. However, it is reported that the sale of visas to Asian nationals continues at a brisk pace.
sale of visas and passports? no real news here. everyone knows this is big business and has been a big money maker for belize for decades now, whether red or blue. but where that money goes should be an interesting news piece.
Shaking my head. This is incredulous. So these people just landed n walked through the airport, no hassle, no problems, then entered the country free n as belizeans. Way to go immigration officials. Wasn’t it claimed some time ago that former police commander or superintendent Carmen zetina was the one responsible. Who’s doing it now? It can’t just b the immigration officer on duty when the plane landed cause they don’t handle passports. I think this is a ring of very smart, highly paid, government officials doing this.

Who is surprised at this corruption? It doesn’t matter though, because ultimately no one will do anything about it. The UDP is doing everything bad that the PUP did, and even more. The PUP tried to be secretive about it, but Dean and the UDP tek Belizeans fi popishow and just continue to insult us. But, like i said, no one will do anything. And after this debacle, Belizeans will get mad at the Chinese and develop racist attitudes instead of being angry at the people who are responsible for them coming illegally in the first place. We are to blame. We do not hold our politicians to a high standard. Who has outed the fire that was in the hearts of my Belizean people in the 2007 riots when we stood up for ourselves and rioted against a corrupt government? It isn’t any politician’s fault. It’s our fault. Belizeans continue to let themselves get raped by these politicians. Why do you expect otherwise? Why should they respect people that don’t respect themselves?
The next plane that lands in belize will fool of terroristcomming to USA to attack us,or maybe to put some bombs in belmopan,at the US embassy.USA need to put some pressure on those criminals in politics,USA-stop giving help to belize,

this just goes to show what everyone knew.. Immigration and customs are all Corrupt how else they can own the fancy cars, trucks, and even homes. Yet the government does not investigate them. Tell me how can a person with a salary, that is supposedly low, own so many things? This is something that occurs all over the country with them. The entire system is corrupt and needs to be cleaned out now!!!!!! Wake up Belize lets stand and demand accountability form our government may that be UDP or PUP since we all know that they are all playing for the same team……

Mexican aliens have to sneak through the Arizona desert, Cuban aliens must quietly wash up on beaches in the Florida Keys, but here in Belize you can just land your plane at our international airport and walk through the main doors, no questions asked! Interesting that these flights arrive on weekends, after the airport is officially closed.
Well said, BT. God knows how many drugs and/or weapons they brought. Who knows if they are Chinese or Terrorists. I say fire the top Immigration man, top Customs man, and anyone who was directly involved in this act.

What makes me more mad at this story is that we the Belizean population is sometimes treated as criminals when entering Belize from abroad, our luggages are search, every little item is taxed by custom and you have to either pay or they want to confiscate your items. These Chinese nationals can bring in anything in the country including themselves ,their Tilapia and their Gecko and who knows what else. My poor Country my heart breaks for you.
I will not tolerate corruption in my government, at the least smell of corruption heads will rolllllllllll.

It’s no surprise to anyone something like this happend….GOB needs to make it LEGAL and make good money off the sales…..these agents are making US$10,000.00 to US$25,000.00 per visas and GOB get what..$Bz500.00……remember it’s the UDP that started this and the BECIP program, their mess to clean up now…or make good off!

i think that this thing suppose to be a wake up call for the U.S Embassy to pressure the barrow administration to stop this corruption. Imgaine terrorist landing here to attack the U.S embassy it will bring a big war problem to us. When I was a teacher…. Many of my students dreamed of becoming immigration or customs officials….. all of them wanted to become rich overnight…. have “big houses and top rides”…..
with a meager salary, as an immigration or customs officer……they have many luxuries than we, who earn higher salaries than them cant…… is the income tax dept asleep???
How can many immigration officers afford luxuries with that salary? Mystery solved….. planes loaded with chinese!!!

Look, before I get any nonsense response please check your spellings as I have very low tolerance for ignorance. It is one thing to deliberately write something incorrect, for example I wrote bout instead of about, or someone else wrote everrrrr twice to emphasise a point. What a joke the Ploice Department is just conducting investigation.Where were these officers on Sunday when these aircrafts landed.What evidence can they retrieve from these aircrafts after such a long period of time?What happened to the Airtraffic control personnel at the Airport?Why weren’t the aircraft’s detected by the radar?Why were BDF personnel not dispatched to the Airport prior to these aircrafts landing?I can go on GOB because you all think that the Belizean people are fools.The PM and his affiliates knew about this BS.What’s next?Then we all wonder why the crime rate is increasing when our leaders are a part of the equation.

Customs at PGIA is a joke. Agents don’t really look for anything except a tip, otherwise known as a bribe. There is a price for every “illegal” item. Well I for one don’t do it, and I demand my change back.

Elgin Martinez, I bet you when you went to the PUP convention this topic wasn’t on the agenda for discussion. However I urge you to speak to your PUP representatives to ask about their involvement in the sale of passport when they were in power. It’s interesting that not one of the PUP politicians are willing to come forward to condemn this administration about the sale of Belize passport and visas. With all the hypocrisy that has been going on, I guess even this one is too big for them to handle. They will come and talk about other things and sometimes patronise the public. However, this is too sensitive for them to talk about. The PUP government (including their friend at …..) and as alleged the UDP administration have both betrayed the people of Belize, so what are you going to do? Be racist about the Chinese people? No one would dare be racist about Garifuna people because that is unacceptable right? I think you should be careful. Once the sale of the passport has been completed these people will have every right as you and I as Belizean citizens. You see they are Belizean with this document in their hands. These people are productive people and perhaps we can learn from them.
By the way whilst your party was in power there were three groups where sale of passports were most successful, China, Russia and East Europe. I hope the United States is paying attention as some sales may have ended up in malevolent hands.
