P.U.P. issues statement on recent firings
The Opposition, People’s United Party, has reacted to reports of firings in the public service. In a release today the P.U.P. condemns the dismissals branding it as political and calls on the Prime Minister put an end to the firings. The release points to the recent case involving the Minister of Agriculture, Rene Montero, who is said to have ordered the dismissal of twelve employees at BAHA and the subsequent resignation of the General Manager Neri Sanz who opted to quit her job rather than carry out the firings. According to the P.U.P., there have also been other dismissals throughout the government service in the Ministries of Education, Works, Natural Resources, Health, Sports, and the Central Bank. The P.U.P. release closes by calling on the P.M. to live up to his pledge of fairness and respect for the workers and unions.
