U.S. Embassy encourages Gov’t to eliminate the illegal entry of people

In an interview on Thursday night in this newscast, attorney Arthur Saldivar, who is representing some of the persons who were on duty when Air Century landed in Belize on Sunday night, recalled that in the past administration, the government had removed the minister who was, at the time, heading Immigration when a smuggling ring had been exposed in 2002. Back then the US brought pressure on the government and cancelled the US visa of the minister because the immigrants smuggled into Belize were making their way to the United States. Late this evening, the US Embassy, in a release, encouraged “the Government of Belize to remain steadfast in their commitment to identifying and sanctioning corruption at all levels and implementing measures that eliminate the illegal entry of people and goods into Belize.” According to the release, the US continues to partner with the region to disrupt the movement of criminals and contraband. The release states “The United States of America believes that a professional cadre of immigration and customs officials, working with transparent and standardized procedures, facilitates legitimate travel and trade while combating corruption and the illegal entry of people and goods. The Embassy has provided training and material assistance to Belize in attaining these objectives.”

the us embassy should start worrying about all the gang members they are deporting back to belize and causing all these murders and crimes in belize this is what they should be looking at in fact they should be paying these families for their loss since they are the reason most of these people in belize are dead.

  2. rootsman says:

It’s not like they don’t know how to do the job they are all quite capable of performing their duties and no amount of training will help this situation when you are dishonest and corrupted, this type of thing will always happen. Most government officials in Belize can be easily bought, I think greed and dishonesty is bred into them.

The American Ambassador, needs to crack down on Belize with sanctions, cut off aid until the gorvernment begins to act like a government with sense and responsibility to the country and not self. For a few dollars Belizeans are willing to put the national security of their own country, family and self at risk. These can be terrorist or criminals who knows what else. Belize can become a launching place for terriorist for just a few dollars, how sad. If I were in government in Belize I would call for the head of anyone who sells out the trust of their position. These foreigners are insulting the government, when they use Belize as a jumping off ground for their illicit games. Do you know what would happen if anyone from Belize would try to land a plane in an orienatal country? Wake up Belizeans, you are not only targets for the local gang and crooks, you are now international targets. Wake up, wake up, wake up.

Well done to the USA. If these politicians will completely take no notice of the people who elected them into office, and since the opposition is so weak, we will need the help of the USA. I know Belize is a sovereign country and as such normally we would not welcome interference of outside states, however an effective government needs a strong opposition to keep them in check. So thank you to the USA. I know this is in America’s own self interest but we the people will benefit from this action also.

Its one thing when you arrive at a Port of Entry of the US with a Belizean passport and being treated as a potential drug trafficker, now we also have to contend with possible hostile interrogation because our passport may be suspect as being obtained illegally.

No amount of money should be put on obtaining a quickie Belizean passport, I am not against foreigners obtaining a passport or a visa from Belize but through the proper channels and in an open and transparent way.

Rod, why blame someone for our mesh, it is time for us belizeans to stand together and find a solution to our problems and stop blaming others for what happens in our home.

  7. belizeanpride says:

With this mess up the barrow administration will cost us our approval of visas to the u.s, he should look into this matter as soon as possible and bring this corruption to an end, this is getting way out of hand.

  8. jesse says:

ROD,are you drunk?USA deports criminals out here, belizeans been some of them.crime in belize is because thier is no law their(good for nothing police force)who only exist to protect the real criminals in power(pup&udp gangs in power).the problem in belize is that belize is ruled by criminals with a law degree, known as lawyers.only when belizeans get ridd of this parasites in power will belize be a better country.

  9. jr says:

this is the question, how can the USA keep dumping our tax payers$$$ to belize, when they know who belize leaders are?bring some big sanctions to the government, dont allowed this criminals in power(ministers)to come to the USA.dont help the BDF,who exist only to kill poor belizeans when they are fed of the belize gov criminal behavior.dont help the bze gov, untill they create jobs for belizeans, how about starting their US EMBASSY?and stop stealing poor belizeans money when they go for visa, that should be a crime to.

  10. BZNpeace says:

I wish the British would take us back! Just look how prosperous the currrent British Overseas Territories are. The people who govern Belize not only have no idea what they are doing, they don’t care about anything except getting rich and making themselves above the law. There is no real accountability in Belize. Government officials feel that they can do whatever they want. In the UK, Cabinet Ministers are forced to resign when they don’t do their jobs. Not so in Belize. Cabinet Ministers think that they are gods. Believe me… it will only get worse.

  11. BZNinCALI says:

Rod, most of the gang members in Belize are not deportees, they were born & raised there. We need to address the lack of parenting & the addiction issues that have rendered many parents useless & too many children without a conscience. Throwing money at the problem without conditions is like handing an addict your wallet.

Rootsman, you are right, no amount of training will root out the corruption, until we stop shuffling people & start firing them when they fail to perform or break the law, we will get more of the same.

Years ago when we had problems with fraudulent passports, they did not crack down until we ended up in the US news during prime time & yes that time I believe a terrorist was captured with a Belizean passport . That was downplayed & the newspapers in Belize focused on a white male whose last name was Green who claimed he was born somewhere in the Corozal District. He lied. No one wanted to address the elephant in the middle of the room.

Just keep in mind folks that 19 men mostly from Saudi Arabia brought down the World Trade Center, do we know the civilian body count in Afghanistan & Iraq? Nine years later they are still bleeding because like us they had a Government that sat on its thumbs & in the case of Afghanistan & to some extent Pakistan allowed people to enter their countries & screw sh@@ up. We need to wake up.

  12. Stand Up says:

Belize is about to be reduced to a “tier 3” level by the US concerning human trafficking, which tier 3 nations do not qualify for much of the aid offered. Things better tighten up REAL fast!!

  13. Proud says:

US should cancel the US VISA to Minister Perdomo and Whylie…also CIA and other agencies should come in and investigate all these corrupt politicians that are allowing and welcoming illegals (could be terrorists) into Belize which is a potential threat to Embassies security

  14. Earl Grey says:

The CIA is in Belize already……..they just need orders from above or Washington D.C.

  15. BDF soldier says:

It is the fact that the pup &udp government are a COMMUNIST bunch of LAWYERS as ministers, why in the world is the USA supporting those communist in power?its a mystery to me.

  16. Elgin Martinez says:

Maybe the US Embassy need to turn over those US Citizens who trafficked our Belizean children to the the GOB to face charges. Why havn’t these human traffickers been extradited to Belize?HelloMr Barrow.
