Two farmers and brothers of Ladyville busted with uncustomed goods

Raul Riviera

Two brothers, both farmers from the Ladyville area, were busted on Thursday with a load of uncustomed vegetables and thirty-five cases of energy drinks. Twenty-one year old Raul Riviera, twenty-seven year-old Angel Pachan were jointly charge with Recklessly Acquiring Control of Uncustomed Goods and Recklessly Acquiring Possession of Uncustomed Goods.  They pleaded guilty and were offered bail of three thousand dollars each plus sureties, which they met. The brothers are to reappear in court on November thirtieth. Rivera and Pachan were arrested between miles thirteen and fourteen on the Northern Highway.

Authorities say that at about eight-forty-five a.m., the two were caught with fifteen sacks of cabbage, five sacks of onions, two sacks of carrots; two sacks of potatoes; three cases of sweet pepper along with the cases of energy drinks. Customs duties were not paid for any of the goods, which value over eight thousand dollars. Magistrate Aretha Ford ordered that all the perishable vegetables were to be destroyed today by Customs.

people hungry in the nation and the government destroying the goods.

Magistrate Ford probably is not aware that the school feeding programs that feed thousands of poor children everyday would have welcome these veggies. She ordered that the veggies be distroyed …how wasteful. Goods confiscated should be donated to the elderly home, the children homes and the schools feeding programs. Common sense really no common for real. These non-profit entities would do good with those and other uncustoms goods instead of the customs officers always taking them home. Another option is to levy or charge the duty to the person…..and make the government make the much needed money!

Why destroy what could be used ? Why not give it to a non profit organization? like the KHMH…

Let’s see what they will do with these guys remember back in 08 they busted Middleton who was or probably still is Castro’s driver with contraband liquor in Castro’s vehicle, might it be that Middleton was just running an errand for his Boss after all he would have to be pretty much off his bounds to be carrying contraband liquor don’t these guys usually stay pretty close to the ministers they drive for.

These veggies and energy drinks most likely were distributedly betqween the BAHA staff and customs personnel. Just visit any of these people’s home and you will see how they benefit from confiscated goods.
