What do Judicial Disruptions mean for ordinary folks?
William Neal asked Courtenay what the judicial disruptions meant for ordinary folks. According to Courtenay, there’s insecurity due to government interference.
Eamon Courtenay
“You cannot operate in a judicial system where you have a case and the first thing your client says to you is “who is the judge?” They want to know who is the judge because they are hearing this, they are seeing that, they are hearing that the government criticizes this judge and then they notice that the other judge rules in a particular way. And so clients are coming to you and say well, which judge, you think we stand a chance from ah him? You think the government di interfere with him? The other side of the coin, there are upstanding judges in this country who are looking at this and asking themselves, wow, first Carey, Conteh, Mottley, Morrison; am I next? Judges themselves are looking and trying to say well how independent is my appointment? We cannot operate in a system which is based on the rule of law, which has as its foundation an independent and impartial judiciary if the executive doesn’t like the way you rule and so I amend the constitution and I send my attorney general to tell you go back to Barbados. We cannot have a true democracy if I don’t like the way you rule and so I send my solicitor general to you and tell you go back to Jamaica.”
wow not a comment on this; guess people are not concerned to rail about the source of our problem only the syndrome such as crime and corruption.
This here, folks, is one of the source of many problems in our country; your damn rights and justice is being taken away, but no one railing on this page.
……, no wonder the Illuminati been running the world for so many centuries.
This is crazy. Our country is on the highway to hell under this administration. How in 2 yrs Mr Barrow has managed to wreck what took years to build. Don’t the Belizean people c the foolishness happening.

We are slowly being led away from Democracy and freedom folk. We just need to look harder and stop plying party favoritism.
What does the judicial system means for ordinary folks?that system dont work for ordinary (poor)belizeans, the belize system only work for the rich, like ………….,novelos, the oil company, gas company, turism private industry.the system did not work for police corporal who got killed by sgt reyes, and the BDF who killed him in san pedro.the judicial system did not work for the two students who got shot by the BDF in benque.by the other belizean who got shot in orange walk.
@ Edith… I like how you put it. It is true, Belize had a good model of a functioning Caribbean court, especially since we just start with the CCJ. Hmmm I wonder if treating all these high profile people bad will bring sanctions from CARICOM or even elsewhere? We cannot think that other countries are not watching us. Human Trafficking, drug trade, now what looks like the roots of fascism… These things can only be bad for our future with or without recognition from the international community.
