Raylene Dyer’s murder sparks threats and school to shut down

A young mother was viciously murdered because her friend wanted her baby; that’s as horrendous as it can get. It has been twelve days since her disappearance and murder but the body of Raylene Dyer has still not been found. Three men have confessed the gory details of how Dyer’s life was taken and are in custody. But now there are threats allegedly prompted by the family of the accused men and classes were called off at one school in Roaring Creek, where the suspects are from. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

The incredible tale of Raylene Dyer who was abducted and killed by three Roaring Creek residents on October 8th has sent massive shock waves across the nation. Undoubtedly, it is one of the most horrendous murders to be reported in the local media. Dyer was beheaded at a slaughterhouse a few miles behind the village by Jason Anderson, Brandon Budna and Darren Banner in an intricate plot concocted by nineteen year old Aracely Cahueque to rekindle a relationship with an ex-boyfriend.

Raylene’s three-month old daughter was then passed off to Leron Gillett as his newborn, a product of his failed relationship with Cahueque. Following an independent investigation by Dyer’s family baby Ravaan was found at Gillett’s home in Ontario Village a day later. The body of her slain mother is yet to be recovered from the Belize River.

The aftermath of the murder however, has created a strong sense of paranoia amongst the families of the accused men. They allege that they are receiving threats from Dyer’s relatives. News Five spoke with Hollyn Banner, sister of Darren Banner.

“We have been getting numerous threats. People have been asking around about us, where we live, what kind of relation, what kind of relation we have to him and they’re threatening to kill whoever they catch even if it’s them. It’s very sad cause dehn noh have nothing fi do with whatever happened.”
Banner’s children are students at Roaring Creek Nazarene School. Over the past two days the administration has notified Belmopan police that there has been unusual activity in the area.

“Fear of reprisal following the vicious slaying of eighteen year old Raylene Dyer a week and a half ago has led to this primary school shutting down today. There have been reports that the families of the accused murderers, some who attend classes here, have been receiving numerous death threats forcing management to suspend classes.”

“That is why my kids are not even in school. I even my, I even feel sad because the family, Mrs. Budna family had nothing to do with it. It’s just their son, the son, I don’t know why they had to do it but they just did it, you understand. It’s just sad. I don’t know why.”
On Tuesday Raylene’s mother, Elizabeth Zuniga, told News Five that she did not harbor any ill will against her daughter’s killers. In fact, she even went a step further by asking them what were her daughter’s final words before she was murdered.

“I don’t have any hatred against them. I don’t have any hatred against them. The only thing I want to ask them what was my daughter’s last words to you before you killed her, that’s all.”
It is a report that police say is unsubstantiated. According to Superintendent Aaron Guzman several patrols have been dispatched to the area and so far have not noticed anything out of the ordinary. Banner is yet to file a report of the threats she has been receiving.

“For the record Darren is somebody very easy. He had a lot of friends I had met. We never expect him to go and do something like killing someone cause he was somebody friendly. He hang around with anybody, he talk to you decently. He have an educational background, to say, so he’s not somebody that is crazy or, how would you say, somebody that don’t know what he was doing.”
And what he was party to, Primary School Principal Elisa Seguro believes, is putting her students at risk. She declined an interview with News Five but told us that the measure taken today was to prevent any such occurrence. Belmopan police on the other hand, haven’t reported any suspicious vehicles or activities in the village since establishing several checkpoints along the Western Highway on Monday. I have said it before and will say it again, people from Roaring Creek are a bunch of useless phuks, no wonder they ran them out of Belmopan; people of Belmopan should demand that when these useless wastes of humans do their sick deeds in Roaring Creek, that the media NOT say its in Belmopan that it happened.
See the craziness these boys r causing. People want closure n people want revenge. They feel that the police department n the court system will fail them so they’re taking matters into their own hands. While I am not condoning violence, maybe this will send a message. The entire situation is crazy n dangerous.
Evidently, the crimminal ‘just us’ system has failed miserably and people are very convinced that the only way to arrive at any semblance of justice is to take matters into their own hands.
While I condemn strongly the alleged attempts of reprisals on innocent family members, I also feel the pain of the Dyer family.
Maximum respect to Miss Elizabeth Zuniga for not harboring justifiable animosity toward her daughter’s killers. My people………can we learn something from this grieving mother??

There is a lot of pain involve in this tradegy, but no matter what Reylene will not come back,
and the family of thiese boys have to understand the pain these men have caused to the family of raylene.
I just hope the four of them be hang, cause they are the ones who commited to murder, I am preety sure the family of these men are innocent about what happen, that is why these boys should have think twice before doing what they did.
I wonder how would they felt if it would have been one of there sister killed for the baby.

I Feel that these family need protection an by doing so take out these lazy policeman who the drink on their duties an put them to stand guard in that village we raise our kids the right way aa as for Miss Budna i know its hard for her an anyone that knows her to believe this but she is a hard working mother for her kids my heart goes out to her an the entire family, that girl is my family too so u see its a thing that we can’t believe it would affect two beautiful families who no one would ever think this would have happen to, its so sad but the judgement lay in the hands of the lord an we as belizeans should not want to mash up no one for we don’t know tomorrow! an lets keep JAH in our hearts, the family is going thru too much for one of their own love one so lets give them peace an stay safe as the days go by, ONE LOVE BELIZEANS.
u say ur not condoning it but it seems to me u r. when people take revenge it doesnt settle anything that still doesnt bring closure it only increases our crime rate. its a sad situation the family of these murderers had nothing to do with this girl’s death. these people fear for their lives their children cant go to school because “there is some one in a black car” looking for the them, taking pictures of their homes and sending threats. what is this country turning into? i ask that whoever is behind harming the families of these guys please, please stop if you want to harm anyone harm the ones who did it this wont bring you any closure but their families are innocent.
I agree with Edith, the people are tired to see murderers walk free. So now they will take matters into their own hands. I also DO NOT condone violence, but i think that the judicial system has failed us so much that people have decided to do justice for themselves. If it was my family, maybe i would do the same. God says, Vengeance is his people, but at times it just hurt to loose a love one. I hope that justice is served.

For all we know it could be anybody! This story has touched everyone who read it! These threats could be coming from anybody! To the sister if you are being threathened why not report it to the police! I hope this is not your way of trying to paint your brother as the good character which he is not! This story is really touchy. first of all that young lady who is the brain should be charge, there is no doubt in my mind of that. on the other hand, if she goes before the court something like, “she is mentally unstable’ would be said. this is because only a crazy person would attempt something like that. the evil person must be watching too much lifetime. Really, I don’t see how those boys could have become involve in something like that and what was in it for them. while we’re at it, lets talk about Banner. if he is so smart and cool as his sister says, how could he have become involved in something like that. kidnapping the girl was already bad, but when they tortured and heard her screams, did they feel any bit of remorse? did they think about stopping, convincing each other it was wrong? the treats for the family is in there mind. those who needs closure is rite. they will get off because even though they confess to killing her, the evidence is not enough, no body has been found. a couple of months from now and they will be walking free looking for their next target.
Some family received threat and you will shut down your school and let the other students suffer due to some co-ward. Please why not get more security. I understand the rage, but it is also totally misdirected. I hope some bold religious figure will take the initiative to volunteer and try to bring reconciliation and help keep the tragedy within some bounds. Children must not be persecuted for the sins of their fathers [or other relatives]. That debases everyone, including the memory of Raylene. Are any Christians left in Belize?

Rumors circulating that she paid the three guys $600.00 BZE. An innocent life slaughtered and their lives ruining for a mere $200.00 each. I am hoping the justice system use these callous four as an example and let them never have freedom again.
