But not so for student remanded for unlicensed firearm
A student of Belmopan will not have to go back to school anytime soon. That’s because today nineteen year old Wayne Harris was remanded to Hattieville Prison after police busted him with an unlicensed nine millimetre pistol and five rounds of ammunition around ten his morning. Harris was nabbed on Albert Street after he allegedly threw the gun under a parked car near Hofius Hardware Store while police were on a mobile patrol. At the time Harris was walking with another youth when they caught the eyes of the police. Cops retrieved the weapon, searched Harris and found a magazine with the ammunition in the pocket of his pants. In court, Harris intended to plead guilty to the charges, but when Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie told him that the minimum sentence for the offence was two years imprisonment he changed his mind and pleaded not guilty. She then remanded him until October fourth.
