Moya hits back with her own take

Story PictureAnd this afternoon, the mayor did not hold back and came back like a ton of bricks as the campaign for the mayoral convention in October heats up. Here’s her side of the story.

Zenaida Moya, Belize City Mayor
“I know Mark is a bit you know, loony, but I didn’t know to that level. I am laughing because this is—from the onset when we got into office, we’ve been having to deal with the foolishness brought on by Mark King. First reasoning, he wanted to run in the Lake I division. He didn’t run; he didn’t get to run afterwards. He was beaten in Lake I, stood up and tried to run as a councillor, got my support, walked around with me to try and get support to even be a councillor and was fortunate enough to become a councillor and even though he couldn’t vote for himself and getting in a wanting to take over Lake I from the person who had won the convention over him. Early on into the administration, he tried to get into that again. Early on he tried to cause problems so that he would have an easy way out to go into trying to run for the Lake Independence area. Now everybody, at least everybody who knows him knows that he’s got a personal vendetta against me simply because he wants to one day go into the Mesopotamia division of which he feels he is not getting the support to go into the Mesopotamia division. All his paranoia, all of his whatever is up in—if you call that a brain—is focused on trying to get a constituency of which I feel that if he was bold enough and if he was even respected enough he would have been able to get a constituency.”

“These are baseless, baseless accusations. The party had already agreed that we will not go the route of mudslinging. Whatever campaign we run must be a positive one. I certainly will continue to ensure that it’s a positive campaign. To try and deal with baseless accusations, especially by somebody who has always caused problems and has been a troublemaker from the onset because of his own personal motives. To get into a back and forth with that, I cannot do so. I am focused on the campaign and to be dealing with these accusations, of which I will tell, you they will be dealt with. Some of these accusations are libelous. But to be dealing with it on a back and forth, I will not dignify his comments.”

“The people are focused, the people are focused. They know what I have been doing as a mayor, they know where my heart is, they know the accomplishments that I have made with their support. They are the ones who put me there. I can’t continue to emphasize that. They put me there and they put me there for a reason and its up to them and they will come out because when I have been campaigning—and I campaign everyday—you rest assured I don’t take anything for granted, just like when I first got in and decided and accepted to run. I campaign everyday and I am continuing to do so and I am enjoying meeting with my people. I am enjoying it, it’s refreshing and everyday I go out, I get stronger and stronger.”
