U.B. student found with nine millimeter pistol and ammo
A university student is in the lock up tonight for firearm and ammunition offences. Twenty-two year old Lattania Choc, who is a student with the University of Belize, is the second woman in two days to go to prison for these offences. Choc appeared in court this morning and was charged with keeping a nine millimeter Ruger brand pistol and a magazine containing ten rounds of nine millimeter caliber ammunition without a gun license. Choc pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Dorothy Flowers explained to her that because of the nature of the offences, the court cannot offer her bail and she was remanded in custody until October fourth. Police yesterday executed a search at Choc’s house at Mile nine and a half on the Northern Highway and unearthed the gun at the foot of Choc’s bed wrapped in blankets and covered by pillows.
The other woman who is behind bars for a related firearm and ammunition offence is Michelle Baltazar who pleaded guilty yesterday to keeping a point twenty-two calibre ammunition without a gun license and was sentenced to two years in prison.
