Justice of the Peace busted with illegal gun and ammunition
A Justice of the Peace who is a former Commissioner of the Supreme Court along with his common-law have landed themselves in jail for the possession of ammunition, controlled drugs and a smoking pipe. Police are claiming that a search of the JP’s home on New Road yielded a point thirty-eight special round of S&B ammunition along with a three inch pipe and an undetermined amount of suspected crack cocaine.
This morning, sixty-two year-old Baxter Matthews a along with his common-law-wife, forty-nine year-old Dorla Garbutt were arraigned on the court of Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie. Matthews told the chief magistrate that Garbutt was only at his home because of the weather. But bail could not be considered and Garbutt became emotional at the prospect of spending time behind bar until trial set for November twenty-sixth.
This man is clearly a crack-head, fallen from grace, and jail should give him wings.
This is another tradegdy because of the stupid and crazy gun law that UDP but on the books. Please give people the chance to be innocent until proven guilty.
if you’re busted with an illegal weapon you’re guilty, nothing to prove.
Bad things happen to good people. It’s a rather unfortunate situation as the accused Mr Mathews is considered as a respectable and once very productive menber of society. But the law is the law and it is a doubled edge sword as it designed to protect us but shoud we find our self on the wrong side then it becomes or executioner.
That means that if I am in a bus and police search and find somebody with unlicensed ammo or weapon me and everyone in that bus will go to jail for a long time while criminals will still be roaming the streets and offices in Belmopan. Welcome to the new Belize.
