Relief efforts pouring in from various organizations
We told you on Tuesday that the Belize Red Cross is providing disaster relief to affected families and that the neighboring Mexican state of Quintana Roo has also provided supplies through CEMO. In the private sector one of the first companies to step up to the plate is the Benny’s Group of Companies which pledged a contribution of fifty thousand dollars on building supplies to residents of the Southside of the City. Our friends at Belize Healthcare Partners say that on Thursday, they will be distributing about two hundred food baskets to hurricane victims. In other welcome news, B.E.L. says that of the close to fifty-three thousand customers who experienced power outages, power has been restored to at least ninety-five percent. According to the utility company, because of a number of transformers service poles and connections that were damaged in Belize City, some customers may still be without power. In respect of the situation with water, we do note that around the city and neighboring communities that is still not available.
So happy to hear that companies are helping. Best of luck to everyone.
ALL I’VE HEARD IS HELP FOR THE PEOPLE OF BELIZE CITY, WHAT HELP WILL BE GIVEN FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL WITHOUT ELECTRICAL POWER ? THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE DAMAGES TO THEIR HOMES OR LOST OF THEIR PROPERTIES BUT WITHOUT ANY CURRANT THEY CANNOT SAVE THEIR FOOD THAT NEEDS TO BE REFRIGERATED, THESE PEOPLE IN THE RURAL AREAS CANNOT EVEN AS MUCH AS GET ICE. THANK GOODNESS THE MAJORITY OF HOMES HAVE A WATER TANK.
