Some improvements but no resolution to cable drama
There are some new developments in the ongoing cable crisis in villages to the west and south of Belize. At news time tonight, Channel Broadcasting Corporation and Telemedia have agreed to restore limited service to subscribers in the Dangriga area. We say limited because Channel Seven and Krem will not be shown due to the pending dispute in which both stations refuse to pay for fiber optic access, but subscribers will be able to access other programming. Villages on the Western and Hummingbird Highway, however, are still affected by disconnection, with C.B.C. apparently deciding not to restore service on threat of sanctions by the Belize Broadcasting Authority. As far as we can tell, the B.B.A. did not meet today as requested by C.B.C. to bring resolution to this matter and it appears that because of the obstinance by Channel Seven and Krem not to pay up, hundreds of families will remain without service.
