Men charged with shooting Rodwell Williams are offered bail
Attorney Rodwell Williams, the law partner of the Prime Minister, was shot on June first as he left his law firm on Albert Street. He was badly wounded and had to be flown to the US for emergency treatment for the life threatening injuries. Williams is now back in Belize and is making a full recovery. Today, the men accused of the crime were brought back to court. Twenty-seven year old Ricky Valencia and eighteen year-old Akeem Thurton both appeared before Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie. The court prosecutor asked for another adjournment but said that he was not objecting to bail since Valencia and Thurton had already served ninety days on remand. Bail was offered under certain conditions including that they are not to be arrested for any other offenses while the matter is still before the court. But until late this afternoon, they had not been able to secure the eight thousand dollar bail and were taken back to the Hattieville Prison. They are to return in December.
this case already stinks attempted murder and they are going to offer bail mien this stink worse than fish market i bet this guy was involved in somekind of corruption for these guys to shoot him and now this pm and gov no want the story fu get out this is one case channel 5 you need to dig deep and get all the facts thhis corrupt gov and pm want to cover up something.
Bail Huh? I guess no matter what the crime, if u have a little money, u can walk out!
This is a shame seems like everything in Belize is all about money, these dirty stinking criminals should never be offered bail, the possession of a firearm alone should be enough to have them thrown in jail for the rest of their life, then on top of that committing a crime of attempted murder what the heck is going on in Belize, it seems like most of these cases where these criminals are allowed to walk away after committing these horrendous crimes are linked to Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie. I think that she is doing a very poor job at seeing justice served and should be relieved of her position maybe if a relative of hers had suffered under these criminals she would take her job of seeing that justice is served more seriously.
Firearms offences are supposed to non-bailable under the new law, noh? So why special treatment for these criminals that nobody else could get, especially when the victim is the PM’s law partner?
They must be cooperating to tell who directed them to try to kill Rodwell Williams. I imagine this story isn’t over.
You know why they get bail…
because they will find them dead on the street before the coourt case. ha ha ha
hope these good for nothing thugs stay behind bars…
Offer bail? How rediculous, and what good timing. Do you want them to finish the job!!!!!!!
THIS MAY BE AN ATTEMPT TO SAVE THE COURT SOME MONEY. THEY MAY BE HOPING THAT IF THEY ARE RELEASED AND ON THE STREET PERHAPS JUSTTICE WILL BE SWIFT. JUST A THOUGHT!
thisbail things is to make them pay for some money spend already in the court so that’s how they try to get it back but badly these thugs have no money. so lock them up and sentnce them for hanging better with no appeal.
Good point JamesJ, that might just be the plan.
Yeah……… Give them bail………THE STREETS WILL EXACT JUSTICE AND SAVE THE COURTS SOME time and MONEY.
What WE WANT TO KNOW is …….who put the contract on Rodwell and why and for how much $$$.
Who ever HIRED them will FIRE them…… LITERALLY!
We will never learn the truth.
If they are smart, which they are not….they should SING like BLACKBIRD and save THEMSELVES!
