Teenage thief really sad when sentenced

francisco rodriguez

Eighteen year old Francisco Rodriguez, a laborer of Belize City, today began serving a one year prison sentence for the theft of a cell phone last Thursday.  Rodriguez, who appeared before Magistrate Emerson Banner this morning, pled guilty to snatching a black Motorola cellular phone belonging to Shakira Young while she was walking along Central American Boulevard.  The teenager confessed in court that he did not have to commit the robbery because he was employed.  Rodriguez, nonetheless, proceeded to do so and a struggled ensued before he made off with the phone.  Following mitigation he was handed down a yearlong sentence despite no record of any previous conviction.  An emotional Rodriguez who was accompanied to court by his mother was then escorted to the Central Prison.

Actions have consequences….. hopefully from this mistake he will learn that an early start of crime life does not pay…. I wonder what was is in our youths mind?? what he wanted to prove?? that he also can be a “bad boy”?? he had a job for christ sake!!!

Like I always used to advice my students…. If you are NOT prepared to face the consequences of your actions….. dont do them!!!!

I suppose you are asking for forgiveness here right? Come back after a year, I might deliver you from bad.
You committed a crime therefore you deserve the time; I certainly do not want your @## back on the streets with just a pat on your shoulder.

I have mixed feelings, on the one hand he did commit a crime but one year? Not sure that it deserve that length of time. Unless we have not been given the full story, as it seems a hefty sentence. How about community service, by sending him to prison you could potentially develop a hardened criminal. If there was no weapons used, he pled guilty and therefore if a custodial sentence was given in my opinion it should have been shorter.

We have so many men who go before the courts having committed very serious crimes and they come out grinning like cheshire cats because the DPP have lost the documents. I think in this case community sentence – cleaning up the streets in bright pink blazer for a month and pay this woman back would have suffice. A hardened criminal certainly would not have admitted carrying out the offence. But again we probably don’t know the full story.

way to go Justice….we locked up a phone snatcher….what about all the white collar criminals who are causing the direct collapse of this beautiful country….not a word about gas prices anymore, not a word about bank forecloses not a word about high taxes, not a word on high cost of…everything…talk about misdirection.

    ……………!!!
