Questionable circumstances surround death of a 4 yr. old
There are lingering questions about the tragic death of a four year old girl from Roaring Creek Village. It was first reported as an accidental death but following the post mortem examination police are investigating the possibility that Hidalia Jomany Maldonado died as a result of child abuse. Hidalia passed away at home on Friday and her mother, Lucena Maldonado, initially told police that she had trouble breathing and started vomiting after falling off the stairs at her family home. Police took Hidalia to the Western Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. News Five visited the Maldonados’ home today, but no one was there and we were told by a neighbor that the family left on Monday and hasn’t returned. That neighbor, who did not want to appear on camera, also alleged that the abuse on the little girl was a common occurrence and that the body had bruises that would not have been sustained in the fall. It is also alleged that Hidalia’s stepfather was involved in the frequent abuse of the young child. According to Police Press Officer, Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, the investigators are looking at all angles. He gave us the result of the post mortem.
Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
“I know that a post mortem examination was conducted on yesterday’s date, first of November, by Dr. Estradabran where at the conclusion he certified the cause of death on young Hidalia Maldonado to be acute thrombosis due to sepsis and trauma to the chest and abdomen as a result of battered child syndrome. So from that angle now, we have indeed began an investigation into the cause of death and what may have led to this child’s death.”

“But the police are taking two sides on this investigation?”
“Actually, I know that based on the results of the post mortem, that consultation will be done with the DPP’s office to say whether or not charges should be filed into this incident.”
While it has not yet been determined if charges will be filed, the family claims it has attained the services of an attorney and has been advised not to speak to the media.

I hope the Belie police and DPP are modern enough to avenge this poor baby’s murder. “Battered child syndrome” doesn’t occur by accident.
There child accidently fell from the stairs, and died of the result according to the child’s family, yet they went and rented the services of an attorney and has been advised not to speak to the media. If the mother wanted me to believe that she is innocent of causing the death of her own child then she surely committed her second worse mistake..
Children of Belize deserve to be children; they deserve quality of life, and smart parents with better parenting skills, the abuse of innocent kids in Belize has been going on for too darn long.
Find the mother/stepfather where ever they are hiding themselves these days, and end their lives the way they ended this innocent child live, because jail is not a place for animals.
I hope they don’t clasify her injuries as superficial the way they found it for Sanchez!! I hope this little girl gets justice!
What I want to know is why our Belizean women are so insecure and dependent on having a man around that they would allow him to beat on her child like that. So many mothers allow this to happen and never step up for the child. At the end of the day that is YOUR child not HIS!! If he is beating the child like that, he has no feelings for that child. Why not step in, step up and put an end to it. It’s so unfortunate that young Hiladia isnt the first and she wont be the last to die at the hands of an abusive step parent! 🙁 I hope she gets justice and that they family has not fled the country!!
roaring creek again? what is ground with the people of that village…muderers, beheaders, baby abusers…what is next???
This is happens when you have kids before the time. Children having children, how can a child raise a child. you tell me that. COME own belizean women we are more that giving up ourself free. To these men who have nothing
I get so sad at the same time upset when i hear these type of news. It just hurts me when i imagine what this poor little girl went thru. I dont know how some people can just stand by and see these abuse happening and say nothing. I once had a neighbor like that. She was a grandmother of 2 and she used to abuse this little girl of 5. A few nights 2-3 the morning i would hear this little girl being beaten for a good while. One day i heard the beatings and i went by my fence at shouted at this woman and told her i would call the police and social. She cursed me out but i didn’t care. I told her it was a sin what she was doing to that little girl. What i’m trying to say is if you see people abusing kids, report it!! and avoid these bad news, don’t wait for some calamity to then say this and that. I believe that these parents should be charged. How can a mother do that, or allow her flesh and blood to be treated that way? Especially a little child!!!!! I hope justice is served in this poor little girl’s name and maybe God knows why he took her out of her misery. Her little body got tired and she couldn’t take it no more. How sad. Please, when u see things like these don’t keep your mouth shut, report it and save a child’s life. Jomany has gone to rest, may her sould rest in peace.
Estradabran with his mumbo jumbo again. !!!!!!!!!! I smell nolle prosequi again.
It is sad when you hear the neighbors say “this was not unusual” – where is their hearts? I am very concerned about children being abused- I will make sure that the neighbor knows I am seeing or watching them beating their kids. We need to stand up and if it takes a call to the police so it be. No more abusing of our future generation. the children cannot ask for help but we can make sure that the neigbors know the kids have rights too!
It’s a shame to hear this poor little baby died that way. When their own flesh and blood fail these innocent children, who can they turn to. This baby is in a better place now, an i hope that the parents are held fully responsible and are punished to the fullest extent of the law. NO MERCY.
this is really sad, now I call on the dept of human services to look into this matter, personally I believe the mother should be charge and sent to jail, how dare she allow this man to abuse her daughter, please don’t tell me she love the man mor ethan her children, for goodness sake, find these people, and please show thier pictures, poor little girls she did’nt ask to come into this world, and where the @#$% in the biological father, MAy her little soul r4est in peace.
HUMAN RIGHT WHERE THE MOTHER @#$% ARE YOU NOW!!!
BELIZEANS FOR JUSTICE LET ME HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY!!!
The death of every child in Belize should be treated as suspicious until proven otherwise. Unless a child was born with some sort of defect or he/she contracted an infectious agent then we must start looking further into the deaths. Too many of our children are mistreated and abused by the very adults who are supposed to protect them and provide for them.
I know we have people doing valuable work in Belize around child care and protection but there is still far too many at risk. I only wish that neighbours and teachers would start reporting these things more often as the poor children are too terrified to report it themselves. We are all responsible to the welfare of our children in Belize, as I continually say it takes a village to raise a child. So please lets stop turning away and pretend we didn’t see an abusive act against our children. If we say it has nothing to do with us think again. A child who suffers abuse in childhood if they survive could potentially go on to be pretty dysfunctional adults and we only have to look in our news on a daily basis to see how we can all be affected.
i agree peoples!!!! come on find something to do rather than being so cold hearted a 4yr old for crying out loud. POLICE you need to find the @#$%^&*( that did this.
I AM SO SADDENED BY THIS, HAVING A 5 AND A 4 YEAR OLD MYSELF. CAN’T IMAGINE ANYONE LAYING HANDS ON MY KIDS. FIND THESE MADA F*** AND HANG THEM. I AGREE WITH YOU NINA WE SHOULD BE ASHAMED AS NEIGHBORS TO SEE A CHILD BEEN ABUSE AND DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. WHERE CAN A CHILD TURN TO IF THEIR FAMILIES ARE GIVING THEM THEIR BACK. SPEAK UP BELIZEAN MOTHERS WHEN YOU SEE THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPENING!!!
