Unions need clarity on perceived threat they face on S.S.B. Board
Still on the S.S.B. fiasco, Dylan Reneau also says that the unions need clarity on what they consider a veiled threat on the issue of the quorum at board meetings.
Dylan Reneau, President, N.T.U.C.B.
“I think we need to have some clarity on what transpired last Friday. [Uhm] certainly we notified the board that we were not going to attend the meeting and that was a decision taken by the general council. [Uhm] we had a general council meeting prior to that and it was just to give time for the request to be levied at the board and for discussions to be taken on those because we know that if we were to attend that meeting on Friday the decision would have been passed through similar to what happened yesterday. [Uhm] so we in essence put the board on notice that we want these things to be legitimately discussed and for our positions to be taken on them. The NTUCB, we did another round robin of whether we should attend or not and the position taken was for us to attend but to maintain our no vote because we still believe that there should be further due diligence.
Some of the things that the chairman of the S.S.B. board said last week are very concerning to us and it seems to be the M.O. of this government. Whenever they can’t have their way, we shall fix it, we shall change the law. [Uhm] and I think Lois needs to make, and I’m sorry to be calling your name Lois, but I think that she needs to give some clarity as to what she meant by fixing it because if it means removing that issue about the quorum, having the N.T.U.C.B. and both the business people having to be there for a quorum to be called or maybe even writing the N.T.U.C.B. out of the board of directors all together. We don’t know what she meant by fixing it, but we know that it was a veil threat and we take it very seriously and we would want for further clarity on that matter and for government to understand that those things were placed in the law as certain safeguards and we chose to utilize it.”

I’ve made entries in the past and have predicted the future right on the dime as per the current
events–I am no psychic, but judging on the fact that these people have done these wrongs to
the Belizean people I knew that they would strong arm SSB and do as they please. Forget the
people, forget the laws, they are moving full speed ahead. They are in power and so what if your
vote counted them in power. It was a wrong move and they are laughing all the way to the Grand
Cayman banks. Belizeans will end up paying for these wrongs that was forced on them for
many years. Belizeans have you picked up your axe, have you gotten your paddle, now grow
some hair..
