P.M. puts reputation on line for Carlos Perdomo

dean barrow

During the course of the week, we have shown that the Minister of Defence and Immigration issued directives to the Director of Immigration to grant visas to Chinese Nationals coming through Cuba.  As most people are well aware, for years that is the preferred route for human smuggling of Chinese Nationals who are trying to reach the United States. What was not known before the recent scandal at the Philip Goldson International Airport was that every month twelve to fifteen visas were approved to Chinese Nationals with the sanction of the minister. But what is known is that for years an international ring of human trafficking has been operating and that many persons have enriched themselves in the process.  So where are these Chinese Nationals who received the visas? Did they leave through any official port? Was there anything that smelled of corruption? The Prime Minister says no. In fact, he says that he has faith in Perdomo and he would stake his reputation on it.

Dean Barrow

“I don’t believe Mr. Perdomo would approve any visas if he is not convinced that the persons for whom the visas are approved are legitimate and are going to be coming to this country for a proper purpose.”

Jose Sanchez

“Should he be able to say where these people are now? They received one entry but I don’t know if any border any of these people have actually passed through. Are they still here in the country?”

Dean Barrow

“I don’t know. I don’t know how long they were given the visas for. You expect me to answer that? Have you spoken to mister Perdomo?”

Jose Sanchez

“I tried.”

Dean Barrow

“Let me tell you. I saw from Mr. Perdomo a list of visas that had been approved. It did not strike me as a particularly huge list. A number of the visas were approved by the British Embassies or British Embassy in China which acts as an agent on our behalf. I don’t understand. If you are telling me that these are numbers that by virtue of their size raise suspicion, you should make a comparison with what use to happen under the previous administration.”

Jose Sanchez

“I understand that there is something that has been done then, but it seems that the human smuggling is still being done now.”

Dean Barrow

“I have no doubt that human smuggling is something that requires constant vigilance and that is something that we have to continue to fight against. I wouldn’t’ suggest to you that it doesn’t happen. What I would absolutely deny is that Carlos Perdomo—and I understand that some aspersions have been cast—but what I would absolutely deny is that Carlos Perdomo, the Minister of Immigration is involved in any hanky-panky; that I would absolutely stake my reputation on.”

Jose Sanchez

“What makes the Chinese nationals that he passes, that he gives visas to, more acceptable that the ones that aren’t given visas?”

Dean Barrow

“My goodness, any application for a visa has to be assessed. I don’t think that Perdomo does this on his own. Some effort has to be made to try and distinguish between legitimate applicants and applicants that aren’t legitimate.”

Jose Sanchez

“But he shut down the door on Cuba and that’s where all of these visas that he tells the director you must pass. That’s where he closed down; all visas to Chinese nationals passing through Cuba.”

Dean Barrow

“I’m not following you. As I understand it, after the scandal at the Philip Goldson International Airport, with respect to which we’ve had confession statements which explodes completely the nonsense of politicians being involved. After that as a precaution Minister Perdomo in fact imposed a moratorium on visas being issued out of Cuba. That seems to be a straight forward matter of trying to ensure that no abuse takes place.”

Jose Sanchez

“You don’t see the need for a commission?”

Dean Barrow

“Commission into what? Into the plane-does of Chinese that came on those particular days. Why is there a need for a commission when we have confession statements from the people involved who made it clear that the ring was inside the department in conjunction with some, as I understand it, Chinese businessman from Belmopan? Open and shut. It’s going to court, these people are being prosecuted. Why do you need a commission? You think we got money to waste?”

Jose Sanchez

“Everybody knows who the businessman is, but is a charge going to be levied?”

Dean Barrow

“I don’t know and I don’t know if there is evidence such as would in fact permit the laying of charges against the businessman. Remember that the immigration officers who confessed, their confession is evidence against them—they’ve incriminated themselves—to the extent that they have incriminated this Chinese businessman. I’m not sure whether that is enough to actually justify the laying of charges. The Director of Public Prosecutions no doubt is looking at that and will make that decision.”

Perdomo called a News Five team for an interview on Wednesday but they were delayed by a flat tire outside the Capital City in the evening. But Perdomo did speak to Channel Five on the issue.

Dean Barrow is a learned man who have believed his own lies for years-he put his head on the

stake for Perdomo whom was never forthcoming after the scandal at the airport–as a matter of

fact they were on TV denying everything–now they are owning up to something–but still

comparing the previous administration to their mess. Belize is this what you want for your

children and childrens children—Maybe it won’t get that far–Belize might disappear like the

Great Maya that abandoned their way of life and magnificent temples–this is like a disease that

infects everyone and kills that host but the original strain remains powerful contaminating

others and whosoever gets involved–Ask any of them a question and you will get the answer I

DON”T KNOW–well if you don’t know get out of politics, Leave the country of Belize alone–If you

believe in your heart that it’s only interesting to you because of the personal gain you can

achieve–leave it alone. Once again, in the beloved and truthful words of Dr. D.J Kennedy—-

‘I’d rather know the saddest truth than be deluded by the sweetest lie’

    now my words—GET THEM BELIZEANS.

  4. Robert says:

I am surprised — I would think that the PM would insist on a commission to clear himself. Otherwise the suspicion that covers Hon.Perdomo can cover the PM’s shoes. What is there to hide? I am sure the cost of a commission is less than any one of the Chinese paid for “special treatment” by our immigration.

  5. rootsman says:

It would seem like the PM’s recent trip has invigorated him quite a bit, would not want to jump to any hasty conclusions but the revelations are that there seems to be some honesty and sincerity in his words and I say this with caution, of course words is one thing however action will surely tell the tale, the landing of those planes at the PGIA is still very questionable.

  6. luo says:

lol good one….. his crooks can get away with anything as long as he gets his money .. look at himm prime minister of belize gets married in the US & VACATIONING after richard .. ridiculouc pm …

  7. Elgin Martinez says:

Mr Perdomo need to start acting like a minister and not a smuggler.

  8. BZNinCALI says:

Chinese Businessman or some kind of agent posing as a businessman? PM, love the confidence in your man Perdomo, we all need bosses that confident in us, I hope sticking that neck out does not lead to your head rolling.

  9. Concerned Citizen says:

That simply means that PM got a good share…he got Perdomo back. Im almost certain Ms. Palma knew something got them by the nuts…so they push her out…mussi even threaten her. Stand up Ms. Palma…..Ms. Palma is a real Belizean Hero!

  10. c says:

    i’m sorry… what reputation???

  11. cayobway says:

tell him to go ahead and put his neck out for predom(@##) lots of belizean have very sharp machete.

  12. Analyst says:

Perdomo get a bribe offer with 2 bottles of whiskey. that passport agent must be very close to him. should he not have reported this bribe offer to the police?

  13. Common Sense says:

LOL! Three headline stories where our gracious dictator has told us what we should think! Family and party above the best interest of Belize constantly.

Come on Rene Villenueva, step up the plate and run for PM (under no control of the the PUDP), Indira Craig for Ministry of Human Development (she cares!), Ms., Torres of St. Joseph for Ministry of Education, James Adderly for Ministry of Sports, Evan X Hyde Ministry of culture, the lady Sakron (apologize for spelling) for ministry of defense and police, Godwin Hulse for Attorney General……all to run as independent in 2013, no need for the PUDP, we have enough talent and love in this country to run the jewel as it should.

How do we start the movement?

  14. BELIZEANGYPSY says:

Common sense you made me laugh but not in a bad way. Yes we belizeans needs to start recruiting new politicians for the year 2013.

  15. NINA says:

@ common sense…….well said, and i have my list of names to finish mek up the cabinet for the independent party..get in touch with me COMMON SENSE…..I LOVE YOUR IDEA, U FORGET ANN MARIE, AND MARY THE BOSS AT CHANNEL FIVE. WE NEED A CHANGE YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR NATION.

  16. rod says:

i am so glad you belizeans are finally starting to see the light you have been in a stuper for two years now finally unu the open unu eyes well they need to be arrested and put in jail or not we need to haul this pm out of his bed at night in his pyjamas and put him on a plane to chad permanently i say permanently remember people to kill a snake you cant cut off the tail it will grow back you have to cut off the head yes this is for your eyes judas barrow.

  17. Rizzo says:

Great job PM!!! You have to take care of your own.

  18. Common Sense says:

NINA – not sure how I can contact you, not sure if I will end up with a bullet in the back of my head (common “keyboard warrior” fear). But am willing to stand up and support/encourage….anything….to clean our jewel from this crap, Inshallah.

I believe it can happen – I believe Rene Villenueva can attract votes from the typical brain dead “die hard” blues and reds with out the need of massive amounts of campaign cash. Most recognize his love of the Jewel. If only he could be convinced to run, and am sure he gets asked frequently.

  19. Cutty Ligiyaba says:

Citizens Arrest–no one will leave themselves unprotected when confronted by assaults-no parent

will laugh when they see or hear their children was abused–The People Of BELIZE needs to move

with force or else another bag of tricks will be opened and it will be worse than the others. Its time

Belizeans-GET THEM AND GET THEM OUT.

  20. daveyt says:

There’s a lot of sense in Common Senses comments – It’s way past the time to rid this country of the PUDP millstone! The people should seriously consider an independent party for 2013. – But make sure none of the members are ‘re-treads’ from the PUDP!!!!

Time to do, as the national Anthem says – make the DESPOTS FLEE, and return Belize to being the Land Of The Free By The Carib Sea!

  21. daveyt says:

I’d vote for Rene any day – he is a true hero of Belize, not that pile of corrupt, jumped up bent lawyers in the PUDP!

  22. Elgin Martinez says:

Mr Barrow got to have Perdomo’s back. They both have sothing to do with this smuggling scheme.Perdomo can’t do anything without Mr Barrow’s concent or he would be called a Jakass.

  23. Manford says:

Folks a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous. All you you poor souls who assume that Government Embassy are places of purity only reveal how naive you all are about how the world really functions. Some of the biggest crime are develop and carry out by Government Diplomats. During the cold war the USA`had to abandon a new Embassy in Russia before they moved in when they discovered that the Russians had placed bugging device all over the building while it was under construction. When many Americans could not get out of Iran after the bombing of their marine barracks, Canada help them out with Passports. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.

  24. rusty says:

Day after Day I am getting very disappointed by this administration. It seems that corruption have doubled in our country. Mr. Prime Minister you seems to keep your hands crossed or folded too much. I don’t feel assured that you and your ministers are doing enough to make Belize a better country for living. You guys wanted the power and the opportunity to serve the people of Belize. You got it and now prove yourselves. Here are somethings happening in our country that I feel can be corrected and is unnecessary.

    1. The crime situation has definitely been a problem especially in Belize City, and I don’t feel like the there was enough effort put in by the Police Department to have corrected this situation.

    2. Why try to accept 20,000 immigrants? I think this is ridiculous? Unless there is something in it for you? That is the impression you are giving Belizeans. You need to start getting rid of people migrating from other countries without the right documents.

    3. I noticed a lot of foreigners have been granted work permits, ( again this is from the immigration and nationality department) especially in the Tourism Industry & casinos. (I am sure that are all getting their hefty tips for granting the work permits). The jobs that these people are doing can be and should be done by Belizeans. A foreigner should only be allowed to train us in special skills on the job. We have a job situation in the country, let Belizeans come first in every way. Foreigners should only be allowed to invest.

    4. For one bottle of Mexican Brandy that I bought in Chetumal, the custom at the Santa Elena Border at the time wanted to take it away from me. I offered to pay the duty, which was three times the amount I paid for it as if I was imported it for sales purposes. My point to this incident is if I cannot bring one bottle of liquor into Belize, why does all the private parties around the country is being stocked with Mexican and other imported beer and liquors from the Free Zone? Especially when a custom is having a party. Those are the areas that are supposed to be check by the customs department, as I am sure they did not pay the duties I paid. And I can go on and on?

    4. I also noticed a lot of non-qualified people were being hired to work under your administration because they supported the UDP? You all are being just as bad as the previous party that was power. How can someone with little of no skills be in a leading position? Simply tell us that Belize will never grow this way.

Examine your party and your ministers. In my opinion it is falling apart and destroying our country day by day.

  25. DonPepe says:

That’s right Rene for PM, not that piece of $#!+ Burro (Borrow). Any day I’/d vote for Rene Villanueva.

  26. Zungu says:

Stop talk fool commonsense + supporters.. james aderly for minster of sports.. evan x hyde, indira craig.. we dont want anymore losers in our government. Enough with these fools.
Yes an independent party would be good.. but smart, educated, ethical individuals.. who care about our country and have the capacity to build our nation.

  27. Mr. nobody says:

Damn, Can everyone see how Barrow, not Hon. Dean Barrow, because he has no damn respect!!! I am boulderdashed, The way he answers the questions of Jose Janchez, he looks a bit outraged, because of the questions asked, but wheel barrow, You are the PM, isn’t your job suppose to run the country??? Including managing your team of officers such as Perdomo? You should be able to know everything that is happening within your team, since you are the one that should be governing them, not themselves…..You are there to manage, not sit back and relax, and solve your own issues, you have been elected to manage the Country of Belize, and if you can’t even manage one of your team members (including not knowing what is going on) hence, you are not eligible enough to manage the country, I am a young student abroad, and I bet I could manage the country better than you, it isn’t rocket science!!! And even rocket science isn’t hard!! You need to learn the appropriate managerial skills and then come back to this “prestigious post” Bless up and big up to all Belizean people!!!! I hope that in the near future I can be an asset to our jewel country Belize, and stop all the Bs that is going on……….you Belizeans know what the F%#k i am talking about…….
