NEMO Minister’s daughter in London is no sacred cow

dean barrow

But what about the allegations of financial improprieties made about Tanya Hulse, the junior officer in the eye of the storm? According to Prime Minister Barrow, there is no currency without evidence.

Dean Barrow

“Melvin Hulse’s daughter is another matter and there are all sorts of things that are said which I don’t know if they are true. I certainly am not gonna give any currency without evidence. Anybody against whom allegations are legitimately made, must be subject to some kind of investigation. I don’t care who it is, so no minister’s daughter can be any sacred cow as far as I’m concern. But one has nothing to do with the other. It is true that, as I understand it; that it was Melvin Hulse’s daughter that the ministry suggested was to hold over in Miss Palma’s absence. A decision with wish Miss Palma disagreed and with which she was free to disagree except you can’t say, “I won’t comply with you directive and furthermore ABCDEFG with respect to you, Mr. chief executive officer. So that is the issue: who is boss and whether a subordinate in the public service will in fact respect the fact that the C.E.O. is the boss and when the C.E.O. gives a directive which is not in any sense illegal, it must be complied with.”

Jules Vasquez, 7 News

“But her caution was born out of judiciousness in the management of public resources.”

Dean Barrow

“And nothing is wrong with a caution, but you know the old rule; complain and then comply. You complain so that you have documented, you have on record that I have tremendous reservations about your decisions Mr. C.E.O. which is the decision of the ministry and perhaps the high commissioner may have been vindicated or may have been proven right. I don’t know. But you cannot decide that you are bigger than the C.E.O. or that you are bigger than the minister or that you are bigger than the government. My goodness man this thing is run by rules.”

While that investigation goes on we did do a background check on Tanya Hulse and as you can see on your screen, a notice was recently published by the Supreme Court, Claim No 284 of 2010 against her by Timber Homes of San Ignacio. The notice says that the company has begun legal proceedings against Hulse for arrears of rent owed to them. As far we know, Hulse is indebted to that company in the tune of thousands of dollars. It doesn’t show a proper picture when our diplomats at one of our most important diplomatic missions is being hauled before the courts for debts at about the same time, the alarm has been sounded about the missing money at the London mission.

  1. GUINEA GRASS Observer says:

A thief to represent Belize internationally….Good to Go Mr. Barrow….

I thought that our ambassadors and diplomatic representative had to go through a thorough background screening!!!!

    What is the selection process???

Does education, experience, achievement, community involvement, etc. matter???

OR THE CRITERIA IS TO BE A FAMILY OR A FRIEND OF A MINISTER????

  2. RadicalBelizean says:

    Mr Barrow rules?
Rule number one stop the nepotism bring Tanya home.
Rule number two: You should not have money problems and hold such and important office.

Kamela is probably right to suggest that she (Tanya) should not be left in charge. She worked with the woman and therefore knows her character better than anyone else even the CEO and the father. Perhaps these two characters (CEO and Elrington) would like to transfer some funds from somewhere and pay Timber homes? Come on, Tanya should never be allowed to hold such a position with this stuff going on too.

Mr Barrow this time you need to step in correct this mess, but sadly it seem you are slanting towards supporting the CEO and the minister.

  3. Earl Grey says:

The story is getting good. You can’t write this stuff, but it’s fun to watch…..VERY ENTERTAINING!!!

    NEPOTISM BITES BACK!!!

  4. REGGIE says:

SHINE IS A CONVICT HE IS AWARDED AMBASSADOR OF MUSIC WHAT DID HE DO FOR BELIZE?THAT WAS A SLAP IN THE FACE FOR THE BELIZEAN ARTIST.HULSE HAVE IS DAUGHTER RUNNING AWAY FROM HER DEBT.OR SEND HER THERE TO MAKE THE MONEY TO PAY IT OFF.A FEW OF THE MINISTER IS QUALIFI TO RUN A CRAZY HOUSE NOT A COUNTRY ,ALL THIS MONEY THEY ARE USING IS THE POOR .OR THE SALVE MONEY WHO HAVE NO SAY WHAT SO EVER,WAKE UP MY PEOPLE.

  5. Cutty Ligiyaba says:

Mrs. Palma need to be reinstated immediately and it’s time to refuse nonsense that is shoved

down your throat. If I call someone a flipping crook thats no reason to get your marching papers.

  6. rootsman says:

Sounds like you guys have the carriage ahead of the horse ever heard of Alan Barton shouldn’t a background check had been performed before Tanya Hulse was given this assignment, I notice the date of the Supreme Court Claim was conveniently omitted, Now that we know she is being sued for thousands of dollars I think that it would be appropriate that she be relieved of those duties since holding such a position would require one to be financially stable and above reproach, I know that the banks in the US does not hire you if you have failed to live up to your financial obligations so why should Belize have such a person running one of their diplomatic office.

  7. NINA says:

I WAS SURPRISE TO HEAR OUR PRIME MINISTER SAY IN HIS INTERVIEW…COMPLAIN THEN COMPLY….HOW IN THE HELL U WILL PUT SOMEONE IN CHARGE OF A COMMISSION KNOWING THEIR PROBLEM, KNOWING THAT TANYA HULSE HAS THE PROBLEM OF MISAPPROPRIATING FUNDS. COME ON MR PRIME MINISTER YOU DARN KNOW BETTER THAN THAT, THIS WOMAN SHOULD NOT BE NEAR ANY CASH REGISTER HER HANDS ARE TOO STICKY. BUT IT SEEMS THAT THE POLITICIANS FAMILIES HAVE SO MUCH MORE PRIVILEGES, THAN OUR REGULAR LAW ABIDING CITIZENS, THE LAW DOES NOT APPLY TO THESE INDIVIDUALS. JUST LIKE HOW THEY ARRESTED THE IMMIGRATION OFFICERS, SO DOES MIS TANYA HULSE NEEDS TO BE STRIPPED OF HER DUTIES WHATEVER THEY MAY BE, BUT SURELY SHE SHOULD NOT BE PUT IN CHARGE OF SUCH AN IMPORTANT POST IN LONDON. SO MISTER PRIME MINISTER, YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD, AND RE-INSTATE MIS PALMA, I THINK THAT SHE WAS JUST DOING A RECOMMENDATION BASED ON HER KNOWLEDGE AND I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE TAKEN HER RECOMMENDATION INTO GREAT CONSIDERATION……I WOULDN’T APOLOGIZE TO NO ONE MR PRIME MMINISTER…AND THAT’S MY OPINION.

  8. Elgin Martinez says:

Everything in the Jewel is done based on political affiliation and this BS need to stop.Is Tanya even qualified to hold this position?Or was she just given this positiond due to her father’s status?

  9. Concerned Citizen says:

I agree with all the comments…if the Prime Minister means good, he will apologize to Ms. Palma and have her re-instated! But then again, he is arrogant and MACHO so he cant apologize to a woman and accept that she is right.

  10. belizeanpride says:

bring it on people lets not let this pimps try bush we around with what they feel like to do it’s has been enough for us to take already. voice our anger and try stop this nonsense

  11. Dissapointed UDP says:

A flippin theif as our ambassador in London. way to go PM

  12. Hardworking Belizean says:

& I quote “my goodness man this thing is run by rules”, an outright joke and slap to all of us Belizeans!! You in particular Mr. PM have forgotten what is the meaning of “rules”. Before, Belizeans had the freedom to express their democracy without any fear, not today! People are suffering, the economy is just taking a nose dive down the abyss and the few of us still in a job better forget our Social Security retirement pension, now that $50 million was used for the BTL shares! Why wasn’t that money used for the victims of Hurricane Richard instead? No, the PM prefers to borrow monies from foreign countries and place our beautiful country deeper in debts!! What for? To clean up his mess with our hardworking lifetime savings! The teachers, who are were always so willing & eager to stand up & fight for their rights now shut up and have to withstand/withhold all the ‘licking’ they are sustaining under this administration. Our poor canefarmers , I don’t and can’t even start to mention their pain & suffering and total disregard by this government towards them and the sugar industry! It only serves to confirm my views & opinion that our PM is racist against the Hispanic people of this jewel!!!! Open your eyes Belizeans..we need to wake up and smell, not the coffee, the sour smell of PAIN & SUFFERING!!

  13. Rosalba Requena says:

As to my understanding last year when I vacationed in Belize (for six months), wasn’t that girl on crack cocaine a few years ago. This is common knowledge in Cayo, why don’t start your investigation there. Belize is sometimes a stewing pot for these things, because why will you fire a respected member of the public service for not leaving the chicken coop to be run by the fox. Honestly, Belize that is why you all are in trouble, and like all these things it will die and nothing will be done. Ms. Palma will suffer embarassment to apologize for being a good watchdog for the Belizean people. As a UDP, I am ashamed of my party. What happened to the promise to clean up the public service and have transparency and accountability. From the jump that girl should not have been hired, she should have been sent to rehab, or jail for stealing from her past employers, as per the allegation in the Supreme Court.

As to Mr. Barrow, why are you getting involved in this. Let people do their jobs, don’t you have a nation in the middle of recession to help. Are we not just getting over a hurricane and people are homeless. To hell with Melvin Hulse’s daughter, your constituents want face time with you and you are out there trying to save this fool. I guess that is the way things work. Hand wash hand right, one man’s black sheep is as well as another. Shyne, Tanya, yeah we all have a black sheep to try to save.

Belizean men, that is why you try to raise your children, because if you leave it to someone else this is what happens. This is the absent father syndrome, now all these politicians have grown children who are children that the country need to maintain. Man up and leave our money to help the poor and indigent, we did not vote you in to enrich your families, we voted you in so that you might be able to help the country not you kids.

Anywho, I guess I might be the only voice out there in the dark….

  14. BELIZEANGYPSY says:

Something has got to be drastically wrong with Tanya Hulse and the position she inherited all due to her Father being a Minister in Government, from all the blogs written Icannot find a single positive entry for her, everyone cannot be wrong. She should be removed immediately from that position and sent back home, one blog is now claiming that she was a crack addict, what a good representation for Belize.

  15. BZNpeace says:

My people. There is so much more to this story than what is finally being reported. Again.. I’m asking Channel 5 to dig deeper. The Foreign Ministry is filthy with inappropriate use of power. I bet nobody knows that Tanya Hulse was almost 9 months pregnant when she was appointed to the Belize High Commission in London. She went all the way to London (with two children and one in her belly) and within a month of getter her fancy house and a fat salary she WENT ON MATERNITY LEAVE. Can believe that sh*t!?! And while she was on maternity leave.. NOT working.. the people’s taxes was paying for housing and amenities in London. DISGRACEFUL! As for PM Barrow’s rant… IT IS NOT THE TRUE STORY! I am not calling the PM a liar. But the story he is giving about what happened in London is NOT TRUE. Either he has not been properly informed as to what actually took place, or he hasn’t bothered to find out. Even so… the worst part of this whole situation is that nothing will happen. Why? There is no accountability! None! I truly believe that Belize is the only country in the Commonwealth that give it’s Cabinet member complete power to do as they will, without any fear of punishment. Our Minister’s feel like they are royalty and have no reason to care what they do with the people’s money AND their trust. It is disgusting and shows the world that Belize is nothing but a little backwater country being governed my pirates. Our Senate is a joke. They have no power. As soon as they try to speak up, the government will replace the members. The Judiciary is NOT independent. We all know that now. Where do we go from here Belize? We are doomed!

  16. recovering rockhead says:

once you touch crack, you will theif for a fix. a teefing crackhead for an ambassador

  17. belizeanpride says:

So how in the world does he expects people to apologize to him or to any c.e.o in his ministry. see how filty his mouth is no wonder shyne singes lone bad words in his songs, monkey see monkey do. Damn!! what a p.m we have eh.

  18. VICITACION GRANDE says:

  19. Cutty Ligiyaba says:

Guinea Grass Observer you have been straight forward and a true Cyber warrior especially

when it comes to the affairs of Belize–I must copy your words

A thief to represent Belize internationally….Good to Go Mr. Barrow….

I thought that our ambassadors and diplomatic representative had to go through a thorough

    background screening!!!!

    What is the selection process???

Does education, experience, achievement, community involvement, etc. matter???

OR THE CRITERIA IS TO BE A FAMILY OR A FRIEND OF A MINISTER????

    MY WORDS—GET THEM BELIZEANS

  20. TrueThing says:

I dont blame tanya hulse at all. she is just taking the opportunity we all would want. I BLAME THE CROOKED POLITICIANS THAT MAKE THESE DECISIONS. BARROW AND CO. UNO TIME DI DUN. YOU BETTER HURRY TRAVEL THE OTHER HALF OF THE GLOBE YOU HAVENT BEEN TO YET.

  21. belizean says:

OK A KYANT TECK THIS NO MO “SACRED COW” LMAO….OH LAWD MAN BUT DA WHY??

  22. Truth says:

Tanya Hulse is a woman of NO class!!! She has an outstanding bill with Timber homes in excess of 15,000…she left the country indebted to Log Cab Inns in San Ignacio in excess of $5,000. She has an arrest record for fighting in the streets of Cayo. She shipped back her nanny (who was provided when she went to London) because she refused to pay her. She has since been provided with another Nanny courtesy of tax payers dollars. She has a Masters Degree in finance but can’t manage to balance a 2 digit check book. She was indeed almost 9 months pregnant when she was awarded the position in England, and no-one dare counter that FACT!
Her name carries nothing but a scandal wherever she goes and she has NOT been able to hold down a job for more than a couple of months (literally) ever!!! Melvin continues to bail his good for nothing daughter out of embarrassing situations and this is just another. She was sent to England to get away from the embarrassment of bearing a child for Vega (Benque) while still living under the keep of her then husband, a Habet (Cayo).
This child is a lost and scandalous soul representing our country. God Bless the UDP…you all need it!
