Two shot on Lancaster Street; cops charge a minor

In the past twenty-four hours, there was a resurgence of gun violence in the city. The first did not turn out fatal and the victims were fortunate to survive. In the other shooting, a well known street figure was violently gunned down. We’ll have more on that shortly but first, it is believed that a seventeen year old minor was the one that pulled the trigger on Thursday night, injuring Jeremy Muslar and Shawn Garbutt. The two men were walking on Lancaster Street, along with Witfield Fisher when the minor approached them, armed with a double barrel sawed off shotgun and opened fire. Muslar was hit on the nose while Garbutt was injured on the right leg and Fisher escaped unharmed. Police have since detained a seventeen year old minor who fits the profile and charged him with two counts each of Attempted Murder, Used of Deadly Means of Harm and Wounding as well as a single count of Aggravated Assault.

Please can we stop referring to a 17years old as a minor. I would like to see our courts bring down the age as in the US and in the UK where the age of criminal responsibility is 12 and 10 respectively. This brainless thugs need to be thrown in jail and throw away the keys whether the killed or not. Just gun possession is enough. We talk about human development yesterday this is the bloody problem what about having a bag on his back with books in it on his way to the library.

No job out there? At his age wanting be see as a minor he should be in school. I am absolutely sick of these people destroying our society. Forget Barrow and anybody else these people born f@$$$*%g criminals.

Send him to the PRISON FARM for 15 yrs. He’d EARN HIS KEEP and provide for the rest of society.

WE NEED A PRISON FARM down in TOLEDO.

  3. Overly Concerned says:

When a 17 year old is shot we announce his name but when a 17 year old is doing the shooting his name is withheld. Something is seriously wrong with that concept.

The city council needs street & sanitation workers, they can really cut their expenses by (sorry about this) chain ganging these thugs and USE THEM TO CLEAN UP STREETS AND GOVT PROPERTY.
Have BDF with guns covering them while they work.
Out of every negative in life, something postive can evolve.

  6. Belize Youth Support Network says:

These kids/youths are not born criminals as some one has suggested. They were brought into this world with the same opportunities as you and I, unfortunately for him something went drastically wrong and he was taken down the road of destruction. We are all quick to judge when something like this happens (and it IS WRONG), but why did this child/youth get so far down this destructive road, without someone seeing what was happening…..what’s his background, where has he come from, who was responsible, who has tried to stop him….NO ONE….until its too late. Did he have an uprbringing of abuse, drugs, alcohol, neglect…what was it and why wasnt it picked up at a young age and addressed. These are the questions I will continue to ask, over and over again, because this will continue until someone takes on board that there is a serious problem within Belize from a very young age and needs addressing then not when its too late. This is what we are trying to do, but until people accept that there are genuine people out there wanting to help and you support us then again this will continue. Your children/youths are Belize’s future……take care of them before they take care of you!!!
