Diplomat ‘imperiled an entire nation?’ after accusing minister’s daughter

The media publicity over the termination of High Commissioner Kamela Palma on November first has stirred an ant’s nest in Belmopan. Last Friday at a press conference, Prime Minister Dean Barrow left a window open when he declared that Palma could possibly get her job back if she apologized to the C.E.O. of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Well, that window was rudely slammed shut today by the same Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which today issued a rather undiplomatic release about the senior diplomat. According to the Ministry, Palma was terminated because she had willfully disregarded instructions given to her and had written correspondence unbecoming of her office. The Ministry release ends rather melodramatically saying that “No country can permit a Senior Foreign Service Officer to flout lawfully given instructions or to act with impunity. Such a course of conduct conduces to erosion of discipline and unprofessionalism, and can imperil an entire nation.” Frankly, we were struck by the undiplomatic and amateurish tone of the release since the High Commissioner did not in any way discredit the ministry. We found it to be harsh and undignified in the least for the ministry to treat “Belize’s chief diplomat in the UK” in the way it has. And secondly as to the issue of imperiling the nation, well we have not heard that kind of language used on those persons in high places who have indeed put at risk the national security of this country when chartered flights were landing with special cargo at night at the P.G.I.A.
I don’t tend to be a violent person but this government has me on my negative nerves.
Perhaps violence has to be used against some Ministers and Public Officials because they are destroying our country.
I prefer to die or go to jail rather can continue tolerating the 8uLL$#!T of this dictatorSHIT (s) that are destroying our beloved Belize. They think that Belizeans will tolerate everything.
The alleged insubordination is a red herring, a smoke-screen to divert attention from the real issue: is there a thief in the government, protected by relatives and friends higher-up? The alleged tehft MUST be investigated by an impartial commission, not by the agency itself.
This is how an honest government official is treated – one who was actually unwilling to “put the nation at peril.”
Mrs. Palma should be given an award by the people for protecting our interests against those in the government who don’t care whether the rest of Belize starves as long as they get their little piece of graft and corruption. (May they choke on whatever they thieve.)

It’s a shame to see our government behaving in such manner. Don’t they have eyes to see the type of person Tanya Hulse is. Don’t they have ears to hear the advise of Mis Palma in regards to Tanya Hulse behavior, Don’t they have the sense to adhere to the serious concerns of Mis Palma, an put her findings into great consideration? What kind of government do we have, a government that doesn’t put the interest of this nation into consideration. When any sort of allegations are being brought against a person, there should be a thorough investigation. And i know for a fact that you don’t put a thief to watch your cash register. In my opinion, i believe that mr Dean Barrow is nothing but a DICTATOR. If you don’t do what he say, you are not part of his corrupt administration. I was a very strong U.D.P but to see that my party is so corrupt and out of control i refuse to vote in the next elections, and i think so will many people. I DONT WANT TO SEE NO U.D.P NO P.U.P AT MY GATE, I WILL PUT MY DOGS AFTER THEM. I HOPE UNO GET THE MESSAGE.

Yes,their is a bigger issue here,and cleary is THEFT,theft by a relative of a minister-i been saying before,belize is ruled by family members-think that is called NEPOTISM-its all over the government,why is NEPOTISM bad?cause when a minister has a family member who has behaved criminally and abuse the trust that belizeans put on her,him,they are protected by thier relatives in power,like in this story,minister protecting his daughter.

I am in full agreement with most of the comments posted here as I think that there is more to the story than what meets the eye and again… like someone posted… who does not know this person… and on another note… why is she even working for the high commission in London. How is it that she is qualified to hold such a senior post. Belize… we got to get real… London is an important diplomatic posting and we should have ONLY QUALIFIED and able people there working for us. I am NOT IN AGREEMENT as well to those who posted about having a rebellion with arms… people we are no banana republic. Lets be real… there are other ways to deal with things like this… have we not enough violence in Belize already!
Kamela should spill the beans to the public – nothing hidden, in all it’s gory glory, then take the G.O.B. to court, via Ministry of Labour. Shame them all! This would actually be in the interests of the nation!
i vote udp cause i wanted better for my country but the red was a bad idea. barrow is not a man of his word and i think we need to get this pack out of office cause we are going down the drain daily..we need to take over…. pup is 6 and udp is half a dozen.
i am sure we need a strong third party or let the military take over.

When upstanding people like Ms. Palma will allegedly act unprofessionally it only demonstrates how much of an uphill and frustrating battle she was facing to Do the Rait thing. Let’s go thru the expenses of the High Commission line by line.. EVERY single expense… including plane tickets then see who else should be fired…

I have Known Ms Palma (she is my cousin) all my life and she has lived in the UK for many years and is a very educated, respectful and decent woman. She was actually doing Belize a favor by being High Commissioner but because she refuses to stoop below her credibility, she is being labeled a villian. Kamie, our family stands behind you and you should use your UK ties to expose the Belize government for lacking the “balls” to govern a tiny country and leading it to violence.
