Independent Mayor Moya Flowers freed of more charges
The political career of Mayor Zenaida Moya Flowers has been on a rollercoaster since she was first elected as the city’s first female mayor. Today it was on a high point; she walked free of the last two of a total of twenty-four charges brought against her. The charges of Failure to Comply with City Council Regulations were dropped, similarly to Tuesday’s court proceedings, when twenty two charges of uttering a false document were also discharged for want of evidence. Last October, the Mayor fresh off child birth, was first whisked off to court and criminally charged. Her choice of words led to her expulsion and now she says that today’s decision proved that from day one, it was a witch hunt taking root against her. News Five spoke first with her attorney, Michael Peyrefitte, who says he does not think the charges will be brought back.

“They were switching between prosecutors, they were switching from who would prosecute the case – crown counsels from the DPP, police officers from prosecutions branch and then finally they settled on a prosecutor who would do it. And then the prosecutor came into court this morning and said that the witnesses were not summoned to be in court. We agreed and the Magistrate then ordered the prosecution to have their witnesses available by two o’clock this afternoon. The prosecution came in and indicated that all efforts were made to locate the witnesses and to inform them to summon them to court. They did not successfully execute that and so the Magistrate and right then the prosecution told the court that they will be offering no evidence in the two remaining summary charges against the mayor and with that then the magistrate dismissed the charges against both Zenaida and Kiran.”

“No evidence is offered and pretty much a not guilty verdict is entered. So in my view, those summary matters cannot be brought back again. However, even if technically they can be brought back again, I would say that if they wanted to proceed to trial against Miss Moya against Miss Budrani, they would have done so a long time ago. The magistrate noted quite correctly that July of 2010 was a date set for this matter to be heard as a final. We are now in November. If the matter was set as final in July and in November they are still not ready, it is my considered opinion that they will never be ready.”
Still a thief in my books…..cant tek this leech and she has the guts to still appear in camera. She will forever be remembered as the Woman Thieving Politician.

Said it before and will say it again, politicians do not go to jail in Belize. Politicians go to jail in Peru and Taiwan but not in Belize.

Just because she wasnt charged and arrested for her crimes doesn’t mean that she isn’t guilty! I want Belizean to sit back and think for a minute a woman making $5000 more or less a month can build an 8 bedroom house, guest house, expensive vehicles, several all expense paid trips for her and her husband lets get real there is no way in hell that money can afford those things so pls dont try to waste ppl time in Belize and say she is innocent. It just goes to show how incompetent the judiciary system is in Belize. If she didnt have Bze tax payers money to pay high class lawyers at her disposal she would be in jail by now. So sad jail is only for poor ppl that cant buy their way out!

Moya is stealing the city blind! Micheal Peyrefitte is a very good attorney. The Crown had her red handed. I cant see how she got out of this. This all smells of CORRUPTION.

The mayor deserve to be set free Bean Barrow is just a vindictive person if u go against him u will pay the price . Belize is taking a lik with a prime minister like that.
