Denis Stanley Hannomansingh appointed as Acting Supreme Court Justice
When the Chief Justice was squeezed out, Justice Samuel Awich was moved up as Acting CJ. Well, there is word tonight that an acting justice of the Supreme Court has been appointed for a six month period. He is Denis Stanley Hannomansingh from Guyana. His appointment, however, did not happen without its share of resistance that came from the Bar Association based on what it said was unsatisfactory references received after checking sources abroad. From what we gather, the acting CJ used his casting vote to approve the appointment at a meeting of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission held last week Wednesday. Hannomansingh will be sitting on the bench beginning December first. Still pending is the naming of a Chief Justice and the appointment of the President of the Court of Appeal who by all indications will be a Belizean.
