U.B. student behind bars for unlicensed firearms/ammo
And in news from the Magistrate Court, a U.B. student is behind bars today for keeping an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is twenty-seven year old Giovanni Remijio Duran. Police report that they busted Duran with a nine millimeter pistol with fourteen rounds in its magazine around two-thirty a.m. this morning. According to the cops, they received a report that a person was causing a disturbance on Cleghorn Street and proceeded to the scene. Upon arrival they saw a man looking suspicious sitting inside a green Cherokee jeep. The cops say they approached the jeep, ordered the man to step out and when he did not, informed him that a search would be conducted on his person. According to the police, when they lifted Duran’s t-shirt, they found the gun stuck in his waist at the back. In court, the prosecution objected to bail on the grounds of the prevalence of the offences, the danger Duran might be to himself, and the spate of recent shootings. Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie up held the objection and remanded Duran into custody until August seventh.
